Recently my 1.4 206 has started to make an awful grinding type noise when engaging the clutch. At first I thought it was a vibration rattle, but its since getting worse and louder.

I can select gears just fine, well as fine as you can with the notchy gearbox it already has, so I'm doubting weather this is the actual clutch that wants replacing.

Now, from my limited knowledge... I'm thinking thrust bearing. Anyone else have any ideas?

Also, if this is the case... any ideas on costing on getting it sorted and if its either or, is it worth just getting both done at the same time? The car is on about 36k I think.

Sounds like the thrust bearing to me. My car has got this, judders when pulling off and sounds like a bag of loose bolts at idle. I'd guess you would be looking at similar to a complete clutch change, so around £250 to £300 depending on the car.

Sounds like the thrust bearing to me - depending on the condition of the clutch, it might be worth doing at the same time, maybe not :)

Its almost always worth doing both at the same time due the work involved.
