nokia 8800 vs 6111

Ive got a 8800, and had a 6111 for a while. The 8800 is a solid phone, can play mp3's as well, expensive but nice, the camera isnt that good, but design-wise its v good

6111- seemed flimsy to me, again no memory card slot, cameras the best thing its got going for it, apart from that its a poorly made phone

i've got a 6111 that followed on from my own D500 sammy.
the slide mechanism on the Nokia feels a little more flimsy than the Samsung and the quality of plastics used also feels inferior to the Sammy.
to use the 6111 is just fine.
the screen is better than the D500, it's definitely louder than the D500 and it holds way more texts than the D500,lol.the Bluetooth runs faster on the Nokia and the camera delivers reasonable snaps.

the menu system on the Nokia is a little unusual but unfortunately that's the same with ALL current Nokias (8800 included)

8800 - Looks the dogs danglys but a shockingly crap phone.
6111 - Very flimsey, very plasticy, no memory slot.

I got a Nokia 6280 yesterday and i've also got a w800i.

Both wicked phones :D

what do you mean by unusual?
quirky IMHO.
take bluetooth for example.
it's off and you want to turn it on, so you go into the menu and select settings>connectivity>bluetooth and the first option is to turn it on/off...so you click on it and the option highlighted is "off".
now why would i want to turn it off if it's already off?
surely the common sense approach when designing a menu with only two options would be to highlight the opposite one as that's almost certainly why you're in that menu in the first place.
Nokia have changed their menu layout witht he current generation of users and IMHO less than a great deal of thought has gone into it.

IMO in terms of flashiness and build quality the 8800 is miles ahead of the 6111 and 6280, however if you're gonna be using the mp3 or camera a LOT for high quality snaps, then the 8800 isnt for you

8800 please thank you

pose value is the raison d'etre of the 8800.
then again so was that of the Razr and what do we all think of those?

8800+ Razr look pretty and are both rubbish to use.

Could you elaborate on "shockingly crap"? There are some major flaws in the design (they should have left out camera for e.g. memory expansion or IrDA) but apart from a solid build, stable software (first version of software was buggy and that applies to most Nokia phones :p), crap camera and the phone being non-smartphone (it wasn't designed to be one in the first place), I'm interested to see how it can be described as shockingly crap. Is that just a word thrown out at random or you couldn't get hold of one and therefore become one of those who say "it is crap"? Phones are released for targeted audience too, are you aware of the targeted audience in the 88/89xx series?

I could say plenty about your phone selections but lets stay on topic and talk about the 8800. My defense for the phone is put on hold until you reply ;)

LOL

the 8800 does what it needs too. Only thing to watch out for is battery life, but i'd gladly carry a car charger and an 8800 instead of a 6111. Vodafone were gonna take these right up to the last minute then didnt want them, issues with price and build quality....

EDIT - theres rumours going around about an 8800i with better camera screen and mem card slot....

dont hold your breath though lol.

comparing the 6111 and the 8800, you need to look at their intended buyer.
the 6111 is for people that want a small fone with the various generic functions we're used to these days.
the 8800 if for the type of person that wants everyone around them to say "wow i love your phone, it looks so cool" everytime they take it out of their pocket.
IMHO the 8800 put appearance before functionailty.
it's almost an iconic object first and a phone second.definitely not for me, nor a good friend of mine that has one who said " if i'd known what it was like first i'd never have bought it"

If there is one thing I can never understand, it would be the thousands of features modern manufacturers put onto the phone when most of it will never be used by most people. I'm not going to go into a full rant mode but afaik, a phone's original purpose is for making and receiving calls... I can never understand those who buy a phone for a specific feature and then complain about it, e.g. a phone's camera quality being crap. Why not just go out and buy a proper camera instead

I'd agree about the 8800 battery being horrible, not that I've noticed since it is on charge whenever I'm in the car or at home but I've left it without charge for two days and it was dead before I knew it... if there is anything I hate about the phone, it'll be the keypad design (why are there two fake buttons) and battery life.
