I've had a Nokia 8800 for 4 or 5 months now I think and the back of it has started "rotting" almost, there's some pictures here to explain it:

Obviously with it being a so-called premium phone I am a little peeved. Will this be covered under the warranty?

I bought the phone from o2 Online but am I right in thinking that I can just take it to pretty much any phone shop that is a Nokia service centre and they fix it? Do I need to have proof of purchase?

Thanks for your advice in advance :)

It's not been dipped in petrol or anything, just been in my pocket. The only thing I can think of is that it's been sat next to a pack of chewing gum and they have a strange sticky glue on the end of the packets and it's really hot in my pocket but it's kind of far-fetched and I doubt it's actually that :o

Heh yeah I try to follow that, especially with this phone, sometimes even using the little carry pouch it comes with, but I just end up with masses of stuff in one pocket with a virtually empty other trouser pocket :(

Oh cool, £19 isn't too bad I suppose. I was expecting something in excess of £50. Any ideas where I could buy it? :)

Hi it's me again. I know I sound like a bad mobile phone owner lol but the buttons on the right side of the keypad are coming progressively harder and harder to press, especially the right shortcut button and the hangup button. I take it this is covered by the warranty? I took it to a local CPW shop but got told to take it to o2 (I bought it from o2 online). I thought they had to repair it because they're Nokia service centres or something? I also got told by someone in a shop before I bought my phone that the 8800s come with a special warranty which means they're priority? How does this work? How long would I have to wait?

Thanks!

Argh! I took it into one of those Nokia 8800 priority repair centres and I told them the problem. "One minute" they said as he went to check if he had the parts to fix it. He came back and said it'd be ready tomorrow so I send my mum to go collect it and he tells her that they can't fix it there and it will be sent away which will take 2 weeks. I tell her not to bother and to just take the phone home. Put my sim card back in and now the speaker on the phone doesn't work so I can't hear people when they're talking on a call

What shall I do now? I'm tempted to take it to another service centre and get them to send it to Nokia but what if the last shop has botched up the repair job and Nokia accuse me of trying to open the phone and fix it myself?

Pretty much the same thing has happened to me gib786. I took it to my nearest priority repair centre place and they said it'd be fixed in a day. I came back the next day and they told me that they couldn't fix it there and that it would need to be sent off so I took my phone back and decided to take it elsewhere. When I get home along with the original faulty keypad the speaker doesn't work so I can't hear people on a voice call now  I took it to another shop and they fix it and I pick it up two days later. The right select button works fine now but now the call hang up button completely doesn't work, not even with repeated pressing. I took it back to the place that fixed they keypad and they said their gay repair man will only be back by Wednesday. I am getting seriously hacked off with their "service" on a so called premium phone. What can I do? I've bought it from o2 online...shall I ring them or the Nokia help line? I'm on a contract and expect a replacement model to use in the meantime whilst they fix a fault that is with the phone, not with caused by me breaking it.

Wicked! I rang up CPW (they've still got my phone) and they said they've lost it so they've ordered me a brand new one which I assume will be boxed and won't have the manky plastic on the back :) More money on eBay for a brand new boxed one ;)

They called me today and said it's instock now but I'm worried. I asked the guy on the phone if it's a new one and he said yeah but I can imagine getting some crappy reconditioned one. What are my rights on this? I either want my original phone back (I don't really) or a brand new boxed one.

What makes you think that??, did the guy say anything that would make you think it was a re-conditioned one??. If it bothers you that much then go down and open the box in front of them and see if its brand new or re-conditioned one.
Nah he didn't but I'm a skeptical git and things that sound good probably don't go my way :p I'll open it in front of them like you say, thanks! :)
