Nokia: "Going the Android Route is like Peeing in your Pants for Warmth"

No. It tells you that android isn't everything and even htc are not silly enough too only concentrate on android.

No it tells me that you dont know what i was talking about...as I have never said that i was a fanboy of android. Neither have i said that android is the be and end of all mobile software as i am well aware of the others in the market place.

I am a Nokia fanboy. I don't mind admitting it. I am half Finnish and my mother even owns a pair of Nokia wellies (they did indeed used to make them).

Why, oh why, are they not using Android?

I really like the look of the new N8, but after owning an N97 I will not go back until they get a better OS.

I have even gone so far back to not using a smartphone at all and am now back to using my trusty 6300. :D

Mate Nokia screwed us over big time with the N97 mine went **** up last month and claimed on my insurance and got me an HTC Desire. When the dual cord come out later in the year i'll get my upgrade. Sent while crossing the chanel from Ireland .

I've always liked nokia's, especially the n95 which is quite old now, but still pretty decent for its age, But the complete opposite to the Nokia 5800 i had. It was good at first, then the screen was less responsive , then it kept getting worse, The buttons falling of etc. The OS isn't half as good as android either ( my opinion). If Nokia kept making phones with the same standard as the n95 i think they'd probably be leading.

No doubt I had been using my N95 8GB for a few months while they worked on my N97 to tell you the truth I put my N97 down and just used my N95 8Gb..because you KNOW you WILL get that call.
Went back to my N97 and it passed away...and i was so happy.

I can never understand why they did the N8 with a camera like that and good video camera then do it on symbian, had a mess with one for 30 mins or so and it would frustrate the hell out of me its slow and laggy and looks terrible, now that camera on Android yes.

I had an N97 and my DesireHD is just so much better. Even going back to the N97, I can't understand how I coped with that thing for so long...

Very true i got a Desire replement but im still holing my upgrade up till the dual core arrives. But till then I very much love the HTC Desire over the N97 hands down.

Way overdue review by the guys at Anandtech, typically in-depth and thorough, more so than most reviews: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4126/nokia-n8-review-
They seemed pretty happy with it with the exception of some software issues (slow browser, buggy Ovi store and email apps, and a few UI quirks that we already mentioned in this thread), which they said they hope will get fixed in the incremental updates.

Nokia have the low-mid end Smart Phone market, they just do. Whilst Symbian is a disappointment for us lot, for the majority of people, who will use their phone for phonecalls, texts, pics on a night out and maybe a touch of web, it's fine. It works andthey know how it works. I see people at work who have RIM/iphone/andriod that don't have a clue how to use their phone. It might look pretty but they do the same on it as they did on their last phone, and the one before. They buy what the man in the shop tells them to, and the lasses buy what's pretty.

Apple/andriod had 0% of the market 4 years ago, don't forget that. If nokia pull their finger out, they will get top-end smartphone market back, if not, they'll stay at the lower end. Whatever they do, I hope that Meego is successful - more competition in the market the better!

Dont be fooled Nokia still has a large slice of the market place. I only jumped ship because they used the N97 users as testers. So a few of us have voted with our feet.

Couldn't care less about Nokia any more. Used to be my favourite phone until I get the Sony Ericsson K800i a while back, not bothered since. Symbian is outdated by God knows how many years so they either need to re-invent a phone OS from scratch and make it as good/better than Android/iOS (will never happen) or embrace Android and start developing stuff.

A shame because the actual quality of the phones both build and spec wise is amazing.

Nokia spoon fed features for too long in the western world bringing very little to the table, the same mistake i can see Apple making.
However the phones they make are perfect for the type of person who just wants/needs a good cheap phone, perfect for up and coming country's and you cant scoff at places like India with a population of 1 billion. Techies/fanboys are no more than a frivolous niche market. It amazes me sometimes to just how ignorant we are to the rest of the world.

Fairplpay to Nokia, there looking at the bigger picture.
