Nokia N73 - "Phone start-up failed" - how to hard reset?

Hi all,
So I bought a Nokia N73 from the auction site, and it worked fine for a couple of hours. I ran the Nokia Software Updater on it, which seemed to encounter some problems as it asked me to remove the battery, re-insert it and try again.

However, the update said it completed sucessfully in the end. Now though, the phone won't boot - it just ends up on a screen saying "Phone start-up failed. Contact the retailer". I've had a Google, and it looks like to hard reset, you can hold CALL + 3 + * whilst you power it on. This doesn't appear to do anything for me, as the phone still comes up with that message.

Is there a more failsafe way to reset the thing?

Sounds pretty dead to me. Other than what you've posted I don't know of any other (deeper) way or resetting it.

To hard reset N73 just press *#7370#

Default code is 12345

That doesn't work, as the phone never reaches a point where a number can be dialled.

With the hard reset method i posted originally, how long should i have to hold the buttons before it actually does something?

I used the hold CALL + 3 + * method and if I remember rightly, I pressed and held them before powering on then kept them held for quite a while until the phone reset.

Sorry I cannot remember in greater detail but I was panicing somewhat at the time due to a baulked flash followed by emotional relief when it reset ok!

Well, i've admitted defeat. I've just posted it off to the Nokia Service Centre to get re-flashed. Hopefully it won't take too long :)
