Looking for a replacment motherboard... as it would appear my current one is a PAIN IN THE A**. But i wont go into it :)

You can see my build from my sig.. and also see am not really into overclocking.
Yet i have kingston advertised at 1066Mhz which sometime i need to force or it does 800Mhz... slightly anoying.

should i be looking at the G41/31, the P43/31 or P45 ?

Just looking for best bang for buck on a fair price < £70

Play few high games if that makes a diffrence on a MoBo choice?

many thanks

I have a Gigabyte EP45-DS3, which doesn't seem to be sold on here anymore although it was a while ago. Great clocker for Quads and I have my Q6600 running at 3.2GHz easily just by bumping the FSB. (have the same cooler, temps hit 60c under full load) It also has Crossfire support which is a nice added bonus. Cost me around £70ish just over a year ago.

If you're not clocking at all and really don't want to spend much then a G41 board would suit you. But to be honest, it's a bit of a waste leaving a Q6600 at stock and it won't be as god as what you could otherwise get. It will work though.

Telling overclockers that you don't think overclocking is worthwhile rarely goes down well. There's a distinct risk of us concluding that you're foolish.

Buy any intel board you like. It'll be the most stable possible, and won't overclock, at all. Yes you may need to run your ram below 1066mhz, but as suggested above, if you can't see the point to 600mhz of cpu frequency you definitely can't see the point to a few mhz of ram.

Id suggest finding a secondhand p5q p45 board and read up on overclocking, theyre such an easy board to overclock on, particularly with the q6600. You could easily achieve 3.4ghz from a q6600, possibly more depending on the chip.

At no point did i say "don't think overclocking is worthwhile" so really theres a distinct risk of ME concluding that you're foolish. :)

I have overclocked in the past and i bought the P35 board for that reason although never got round to it, i was quite happy with the performance @ stock aswell...

but thinkin on i see the point with the 1066Mhz so after getting my new MoBo (with no problems) al have a fiddle.

So p45 is a decent chipset to aim for ?

Thanks

You've lost me. Do you want to run the q6600 at stock speeds but overclock the ram, and want to know if the P45 is a good board to do this on?

"see am not really into overclocking"

you don't overclock because you don't think its worth it
no?

P45 is where it's at for overclocking 775 quads. An intel P45 is not though. There's a gigabyte one that's particularly well thought of. I used a P5Q board with reasonable success. I genuinely can't understand any set of circumstances which would lead to you wanting to overclock the ram but not the cpu though.

ok sorry al explain a little more in depth.
I have a P5Kc bought it for the purpose of Overclocking & read it was good with a Q6600(at the time), but i have never got round to clocking the cpu and it already seems efficent enough still.
However i bought some Kingston Ram to upgrade from 2gb@800mhz to [email protected] even thoguh the kingston is advertised at 1066 it appears to run at 800 untill i change the timings and voltage, but with this Motherboard being a pain in the bum, it constantly resets the settings fails to boot etc.

So am looking for a replacment mobo now, (i know its the mobo at fault becuase i have done countless trail and error with swapping every other part apart from CPU which is fine)
So the mobo i am looking to replace, i suppose i would preffer the option to overclock now :)
