non fault claim= dearer insurance

This happened to me twice.

1: Hit by some moron that took a year for the claim to go through. Only went my way because he took soo long to come back to his own insurers that it defaulted to me. A year of my time mucking about with that one, car written off (ok it was an older mondeo but still caused me major hassle) and expense as premium went up.

2: Hit my a dominoes pizza delivery guy and my premium ahs gone up for both cars which I just renewed this month all because I have a pending claim which has taken as long as since January to sort out, all because some idiot won't accept liability when it is clearly his fault. Waste of my life frankly.

Annoying, but you get over it. Insurance companies are designed to rinse your wallet more and more each year through no benefit to yourself. I think if the wind changes direction they put the prices up each year as well.

Woman hit me too and all my quick searches resulted in 10-50% more on my premium.

I wonder if you can claim this increase on the person who hit me? Considering it... premium was £950 last year (with the accident) and it's about the same now still :/

Foxtrot26, I'm guessing your age is not helping with regard to your premium regardless of the claim.

Out of interest, have you tried Swiftcover?

Myself any many drivers at work use them as they don't hit you with a big premium for driving professionally as many do!

Ok, I'm older, but back when I had my 728i, I saved nearly £350 by switching from the AA to Swiftcover.

And I currently pay sub £240 for my 328i F/C

I am an old fart nearing 40 rapidly though...... :o

Just a thought mate. :)

hardly a young un at 29 with full no claims :)

As said, some insurers will load the premium with a non fault accident and some won't.

Elephant/Admiral group do in my experience, Privilege however did not.

I got side swiped on a roundabout by an 80 year old not paying attetion to the road. Anyho my insurance Hasn't been effected by this at all; I was with quinn direct when I got hit and Im now with Directline and my insurance is still the best quote out atm with or without adding the claim. I cant imagine any decent insurance company adding any extra for this as that would be unfair.

Thinking about it, hopefully I'll be able to find some sensible quotes when it comes to renewal that I won't need to stay with Admiral. Admiral don't seem so competitive on normal cars, but at least after coming with 1x 3 years NCD I'll be leaving with 2x 4 Years :D

When some blind woman hit the Elise my insurance went up by about 40% for 4 years I think it was. Really annoying as I was totally not at fault (was stationary in traffic about 7m behind her when she decided to reverse and because I was so low she didn't see me)

I fail to see how statistically I was a higher risk when it wasn't my fault

Same here, my car got hit when parked outside my house and direct line wanted £400 more on top of the £800 I payed the year before!

How i'm a greater risk of causing an accident when I wasn't even in the car, I dont know!!

thats the plan anyway

going to speak to a solicitor about this and see what my options are.

i'll be damned if i'm going to suffer a 30% increase in my premiums for the next 5 years.

not likely to see that amount of increase each year thou, if it bugs you that much you can ask your insurance company to send you a non standard letter advising what your price would have been if you didnt have the claim.incident and then claim it back from the other party, not 100% successful but i seen it been done, however that will mean the amount paid out for the incident you were involved in would be higher and might change the price your quoted, at the end of the day insurance companies see that if you make a claim, fault or non fault, your more likely to claim than someone who has had no bumps, prangs or incidences

Did you claim against the other driver though or did he drive off and leave you with no-one to claim against?

You're going to have no luck to get money out of them for your increased premiums.

I'm getting completely shafted by it at the moment as well. I was wanting to upgrade to something faster but the cheapest insurers (Admiral, who I've been with for two years) wanted an extra £500 than if I hadn't be involved in an accident at all.

It's going down as case of sod's law for me.

Simple truths, they will sting you for money for any reason.. the very fact they ask about fault/non-fault claims i believe is to make people assume/not realise that the non-fault ones will still increase the premium

Its like people assuming that because they have protected no claims their insurance wont go up if they have an accident. Its totally wrong if your no claims discount is 30% before, you simply have a higher premium to start with and then they discount 30% from that

Its all a scam. For most people by the time they have paid their huge premium and then the excess the actual amount they get from a claim is less than the amount they paid but they still then get stung for more for the next 5 years

I have been rear ended twice, once stationary waiting to join a roundabout, then again when actually on a roundabout. Both were non-fault and increased my insurance.

I then got reversed into in my work car park the other day too..

Thats 3 non-fault claims since I got my license in 2003!

Finally, I have 0 points though :D Looking forward to my next insurance quote, will be interesting!

*Looks at a letter thats just been sent in work* i said its possible you can claim but its a very piccy way to go about it as they can argue any of the other variables could be affecting the price, but if your insurance company can write a letter stating that if the accident didnt happen it shows th eonly thing effecting the price is the non fault incident that happened

If your 100% totally not at fault like being stationary at lights and you own a cheap car do you still have to tell your insurance company about it? If it's a slight bump is it essential to contact them? It's just annoying they charge more for being in an accident not your fault. Not that I have been yet, just wondering.

Some twit drove into my parked car as I watched out the window, my insurance went up by over £100 as a result of it... I was well and truly narked...

Then again I recently had an at fault total loss on an S2000 which unfortunately meant my insurance went ballistic! :o live and learn
