Hi guys.

Can you advise on which parts to buy for a PC for basic use (browsing internet, emails, Youtube etc). Budget £280-£350. Already have monitor, mouse and keyboard. Would like it to be small form factor

If possible based in this case:

It's for an older family member, I've noticed from searching through old threads people are recommending to go with a refurbed DELL, however, they start at £200 with Windows 7 and without an SSD. To me it seems more cost efficient to build as eventually it will need to be upgraded to Windows 10 at over £100. Thoughts on this?

Thanks!

You can get a refurb from that famous auction site for about ~£120, if for some reason you chose one that did come with Windows 7, it can usually still be upgraded to Windows 10 using the OEM key on the chassis, if not you can get a (fairly) legit key for ~£10-25. As for the SSD, they start at about £15 for 120.

EDIT: Example - Dell Optiplex 3040 i3-6100T 3.20GHz 8GB 256GB SSD USFF - £179 or best offer. Comes with Windows 8 key, upgradable to 10 for free. :)

Thanks a lot, think I'll go that route. Didn't realise they were that cheap, was obviously looking in the wrong places!

unfortunately not currently available from Overclockers, but can look for an asrock deskmini A300. Then stick in an athlon 200ge or 2200g, SSD and sodimm ram all for around about the £275 - £300 mark with some shopping around. Its about the size of a PSU :)
