North Korea

Do the US not have defensive missiles though, can't remember the tech term, but they do have some kind of missiles defence system, not sure how accurate it is but assume they have something in Guam/SK, I know there is some kind of system in Huawei.

Probably start working on the Star Wars system again some time in future.

The thing with defensive strikes is you would be hitting a nuclear missile. Over something/someone or possibly the sea, not ideal really.

They have a few different ones depending on what the threat is. They do have ones which can shoot down an ICBM.

Shooting down a nuke won't detonate it so the risk is pretty minimal as long as the debris is cleaned up quickly.

A nuclear war would be devastating globally and would in many ways end life as we know it.

A "nuclear war" with North Korea would be them potentially, at best, killing a few thousand people, and then America retaliating with tactical nuclear weapons which wouldn't cause any wide spread fallout, they may only need to respond with conventional weapons such as MOAB. There's a huge difference between an exchange of strategic nuclear weapons between Russia or China and the US, and the use of small tactical weapons.

I know but if they land in the sea, or somewhere inaccessible or in a volcano you may not be able to retrieve it. Sooner or later it will corrode.

Which would result in a bit of contamination in a volcano or off in the ocean somewhere, significantly better outcome than if they had been allowed to detonate it, and given that the current president doesn't really place any importance on environmental concerns I don't think he's going to worry about a few octopi which have started to glow green.

I just hope NK come to their senses, I really feel for the people of NK, they are being led to destruction by a pathologically insane leader...though i have read and watched a few articles/documentaries on people who have fled NK, they all say the same thing, they sort of wish it would happen so the whole country can move forward. The place would be completely different in 10/15 years time, it would be prosperous and most likely, like S.Korea, a technological hub for the world. What a dire situation the whole thing is..

Even if it did come to war I don't think it would be that clean at the end, China doesn't want a unified westernised Korea on its border so will likely have objections or may even move in and take control for themselves. Looking at the current ideology of the people that may even be the better solution, it would be nice to think that if their "dear leader" was taken out the country would snap out of it but they've had propaganda about the outside world their entire lives.

I'm not even sure if South Korea wants to unify, the wealth disparity is huge and will take a lot of work to overcome.

I think the people are bit more clued up about what goes on outside their country. They realise it's not normal.
Definitely right about China, they won't want a unified Korea, it would be a huge loss for them but i'm not sure they would go to war with NK over it. China has a lot going for it even with a unified Korea, i think they would see that if push came to shove.
And i couldn't think of anything better for S.Korea than NK being open for business, they'd chase the dollar, and as result the whole of NK would be lifted out of poverty because of it, the whole place would be transformed within 20 years..

More chance of McDonald's opening a branch on mars that N.Korea starting a war with the USA
This

If anything with a Nuke attached tried to leave NK it would be taken down before it gets anywhere, also pretty much 99% of whatever NK have lined up along the DMZ pointing to SK would easily be wiped out within 24 hours.

Do people really believe all this crap that NK can actually do anything. The US intel and various other countries will have in depth data on everything that can be seen as a danger, NK wouldnt know what hit them.

We all know this.

I wonder what would happen to NK policy if KJU suddenly shuffled off the mortal coil. There is speculation that he has a daughter who is 5 so there's no way she would assume power. Most of his relatives are dead. I wonder if the generals would look outwards and turn things around or would it make them continue with more of the same.

In respect of Kim I always get the feeling that he is a dog that barks but doesn't bite. It would be tantamount to suicide for him if he launched any form of attack. The retaliation would be quick, brutal and terminal.

Just day each minute as it comes I think is their policy, they have all kinds of OPLANS which I they follow, i.e every thinkable senario has a battle plan backing it up. I assume the US will know where every silo, airfield and communication centers are. I guess they would be hit first. Rodman would be sent in as a last resort, or we could send in Gazza with some lager and chicken. It will all fizzle out.
