Norton and Vista 64bit

Why on earth would you run Norton? Worst resource-usage and worst detection rate of almost any anti-virus...
Agree totally ! i run Nod 32 ,and they have a x64 version that will run with Vista, much better option .. ;)

Because its the biggest P.O.S to ever hit software av/firewalls?

It is an utter joke, resource hog, reduces functionality, and has probably the worst av detection system i have ever come across.

We're actually doing you a favour... just call it education.

However if you want to put your PC at risk then by all means... buy Norton. :)

i have been around long enough to know that it is bloatware, and earlier posts of mine reveal that i don't use norton, the question was for a friend who recently bought norton internet security 2007 from OCuk

I haven't read your earlier posts, and neither would I search through them to learn more about what you ma or may have not said in the past.

And if you know all this, then tbh you should have educated your friend before he bought it, or told him to return it for a refund and get a decent one. :p

I doubt there are any viruses that can affect Vista x64 yet anyway (assuming you don't turn off any of its security features) so AV is a bit pointless for the time being. For power users, AV will continue to be as pointless as it was a decade ago.

Because I'd still be using similar crap now if I didn't try something new (about 2 years ago now).

i have not got the skill which you obviously have
i.e. the ability to predict what your friends are going to buy prior to the event, hang on
i'll get my crystal ball out
