Norton Internet Security 2007 won't start up after latest windows updates installed

Had just finished letting Windows install the latest windows automatic updates (14th August) and had to restart the PC. On doing this Norton did not automatically start up with a message to follow saying there is an error. Double clciking on the shortcut produced the same result. I have tried a second restart with no success.

It would appear anything linked to Norton Internet Security will also not start-up (IE and Word so far).

Anybody else having the same issue?

well the only thing i can suggest it going to uninstall norton and re-install? or maybe look around their webby so see if it's a known issue or a fix is available?

Ok, tried to uninstall it without success. It keeps on saying that Live Update and Auto Live Update are already running and need stopping before it can be uninstalled. I'll keep googling this to find an answer.

For now, I need free security software that will protect me until the problem is solved. Any suggestions guys?

1) Unless you are a world wide hacker currently engaged in the biggest hack in history you dont actually need any security. You have to be a total moron to know about computers and still open those uknown email attachments which is still the only real way in which computer viri proliferate.
2) Free software has already been suggested in this thread.

Ok, I have just got it back up and running. However, it kinda came out the blue. I installed Avast Anti-Virus and after installation and the restart requested to complete the installation it brought Norton back to life. So, overall, I have no idea what happened!
