haha i liked the story, im an ex smoker and we can debate all day how ridiculous this law is, which it blatantly is. Yeah i guess its better to get a slapped wrist than if he wanted to be a **** do you for it....

Who do you call when you're being mugged/raped/murdered and need some assistance? I hope it's not 'the pigs'!
In my experience the only people who don't like the police are the scrotes who have dealings with them in an 'official capacity', IE the scumbags doing illegal stuff to the extent where they get their attention! (It takes quite a lot to get to this stage in my experience!)

I have to agree. The only experience I've had from the police is them assisting me and those times they have been fantastic.
Not only is it against the rules, but it's childish and needless. (Certainly in this context.)

There's nothing wrong with 'grassing'. It stops the scum of society in thier tracks. Which is why they dislike 'grassing'!

Unless it's a company car to which you have exclusive access it's classified a workplace and therefore covered under the no-smoking law.

I have had incidents with police a few times and mostly thier involvement has been a bad thing or atleast not helped. Usually because I was doing nothing wrong as they seem rather prejudice or when I was the victim of a crime they were just useless at doing anything that requires a tiny bit of effort and simply go for easy targets.
Obviously in a civilized society we need them and they have some uses but at the same time enforce stupid laws and are just generally a bit rubbish/ not nice people in my experience.
They chose that job. expect to be hated.

The only problem with the UK Police is that the 97% of the bad ones give the 3% of the good ones a bad name.
I too have had my frustrations at the police for being pretty useless at doing something about crime. I have also had good experiences. Sometimes there is nothing they can do, which might be for a variety of reasons.
It's not up to the police to decide which laws to enforce.
Let me expand your last sentence a bit.

If standing on your own roof is breaking the law then yes. They thought I was breaking in apparently.
If having insurance on your car is illegal then yup.
