Hi all,

I was hoping someone could tell me where i stand with this:

I bought a new 19 " tv for my kitchen (LG 19lu4000) from a well known hifi highstreet store on Friday, i have been playing with it all weekend, but i just cannot get a decent picture, even from a HD source. The colours are saturated and look fuzzy, and the motion blur is pretty poor. There are also a couple of stuck pixels.

My question is: can i take the tv back and get a refund despite the fact that its not officially 'faulty'.

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

p.s. sorry if i have posted this in the wrong place!!

Unless there is a policy on stuck pixels then no you don't have a chance in hell if you went and bought it on the high street.

You can "try" and change it for another product in the store but I wouldn't go in there expecting anything.

Also, this should be in another section of the forums, you would get better replies from there too.

Thanks PardonTheWait, i shall pop in this week and hope for the best, it's definately the last time i make an impulse buy without doing the necessary research!

I bought one from the high-street catalogue shop a while back.

Got it home and it was utterly crap. Nothing wrong with it as such, just low quality. So the next day I took it back and told them where they could stick it. :D

Got a full refund.

The only real chance you have of getting anywhere with something like this is to ensure you are as nice as possible the entire time. If you go in and ask if there's any chance they can do something, rather than expect it, chances are you might get somewhere. Just keep in mind they aren't obliged or required to do anything, it's entirely at their discretion if they agree to swap or refund it.

Take it back, tell them you are disappointed with the quality of the output and would like to consider another option. Be polite, reasonable but firm in your assertion and I am sure the shop will be more than accommodating.

I doubt packaging has anything to do with it when it comes to electrical goods. How could she know it was unsatisfactory quality without opening it?
If it's a high street store I would be very surprised if it wasn't on display. The purpose of the display is to see if it's satisfactory quality for what you want. If the item is opened and used it's no longer a new product and as such the shop would have to sell it as a pre-owned product. I've yet to meet someone who would voluntarily pay full price for a pre-owned product.

i bought a 32" jvc hd lcd tv for £250 off the bay, refurbished but looked brand new, works spot on and gaming on it is quality :)

thanks for all the help guys!

I have just seen on their website that they have a 7 day 'no quibble' return scheme. So as people have mentioned, i will go in and be polite and ask what they can do to help.

SKaRT, they didnt actually have the model on display, the retailer only has small stores, and so they can't have every product out.

You seem to be under the delusion that if the customer doesn't want it the shop will have to re-sell it.

Reality check - if the customer isn't happy with the product it gets returned to the manufacturer. The retailer doesn't have to re-sell the item, and doesn't lose anything.

I bought a Wharfedale telly from Argos a few years ago and it was just toilet... I took it back, explained, and they accepted the return. I just returned it because it was rubbish. I had it a few days ago, made my mind up, and took it back. I was nice about it and they were nice back.

i took one back a couple of years ago...bought a lcd tv and omg it was absolute ****...the colours were so bad it was as though everyones face was on fire.
tried turning the colours down but it didnt really help.
it went back the next day.

Are you living on a different planet or something? None of that is true at all.

The high-street catalogue shop will refund practically anything in my experience, with the exception of body jewellery. I don't think it's really worth their while to argue over every last thing, given their stock turnover.

lol are you on a different planet or something?

I've returned a PSP, DS, iPod and loads of other gadgetry/electrical things to many high street stores, and they've given me a full refund every time, 100% no quibble.
