Yet again the boiler has stopped working in the middle of winter and my landlord has failed to action it (It was off for two weeks last year). It's stil not fixed now, but my question was, do I have to pay rent for a flat that isn't upto the requirements? Anyone had any experince of rebates in this matter? I didn't bother last year because at the end of the two weeks I was ill and stupidly left it.

That should say no heating...

Have you tried telling him your not happy? Might have more effect than telling us.

I'll tell him if you want, email in trust ;)

legally they usually have so many days to sort it out or attempt to sort it out. (which could be as little as him coming round and resetting it) :(

we had no heating for a month last year in janruary but where told we couldnt do anything about it really because they had been 'attempting' to fix it. eventually we got a new boiler but we never got refunded anything for the electric heater bills or for the times we couldnt live there because it was too cold to study or pretty much do anything

Why dont you see about getting it fixed yourself and bill them? .. My door lock recently broke to the point it wouldn't unlock from the inside ! so I was unable to lock my door .. landlord had been out once and had a look sprayed it with wd40 and gave me another key, as this seemed to help a bit he decided he wasn't going to pay the expense of getting a new one and left it be. Anyway that didn't solve it and it recently packed up altogether so i purchased a new one myself because he and his partner are in France at their holiday home till late January, ive kept the receipt and will be claiming back the expense my main concern is that he will not like the fact ive changed it myself .. but my arguement would be I had no choice as I couldn't lock my door.

Citizens Advice Bureau :) they'll most likely deal with this issue often and have some proper advice :)

Closed at the moment; I'm not not really looking for definitive advice (I will when they're open) but more previous experience with the matter.

What means did you attempt to receive compensation?
