On the off chance, I popped into Trainer BMW earlier to enquire about getting a service done seeing as it was due. I sat down with a very knowledgeable lady and decided to have the brake fluid and microfilters changed at the same time.

I had previously rung around getting quotes for doing the oil change and they were all around the £150 mark but couldn't tell me which oil they would use. I was quite surprised to be given a bill for £300 in which they also fixed the seat control, which had become a bit loose and the button on the drink holder was replaced too (had split)

What impressed me was the speed of service (90 minutes) and the comfortable waiting area. They had gone the whole hog with free tea/coffee/oj etc with biscuits, sky and newspapers. It was like being in a posh hotel with the leather sofas.

Anyway, just thought I would share. There was no uncomfortable pressure from sales people, just finding out if they could do anything for us while we were waiting.

So £300 for:

Oil change
Filter
Microfilters
Brake fluid change
A Button
A Button jigglin'

Could be worse I guess, depends on how much tea you got through in 90 minutes mind.

Getting my brake fluid done on Friday for 50 quid, happy with that.

Pretty expensive just for a bleed and a top up, in my opinion. Although it's pretty cheap as far as mechanic prices go, at a guess, one hours labour + fluid?

crawley bmw was good, had 2 pc's which could be used for browsing.
Bristol (cribs) has a seating area with a tv next to the desk, which happens to be elk with lovely receptionist.

My recent run-ins with Honda have been met with similarly decent customer service (Honda Gatwick which is in Crawley). My car went in for the replacement of the aux belt and a heat shield. I also told them to investigate a weird sound (they found nothing wrong with it at all). They picked up and dropped off the car, and gave it a full valet to boot, with which I was most impressed.

I popped the car in today for a transmission oil change and was met with a nice and comfortable customer lounge with loads of magazines, free wifi, free coffee and soft drinks, and free maltesers(!). The lounge has a big window through to the service area which was impeccably clean and gave me the reassurance that they were doing what they were supposed to do with the car.

The only gripe I have is their rather high labour and parts charges.

:D

I may have abused the tea and coffee. I certainly abused the free biscuits and fruit.

I was most impressed they had free wifi and also 3 internet cafe style pcs. Also, they had various BMW books and different things to look at.

Much better than my local ford dealer who can't even respond to a phone or bother phoning back when leaving a message.

Nothing nasty about using a bleeder kit. I'm not entirely sure but i'd imagine they use something like a mityvac.

it is nasty, you never know when a bleed nipple will snap and brake fluid is horrid stuff.

most garages wont risk a mityvac or any of those nonsense 1 man bleeder kits the last thing you want in the system is a vacuum, its enough trouble getting a full bleed done without popping the master cylinder as it is.

He hasn't just paid £300 for an oil change.

Yes but like daily mail headlines, why let facts get in the way?

How many VWs use 7 litres of oil? I can bet the ones that do cost a bit more than £300
