hi everyone, i need to get myself a dvi cable for my monitor, i have just checked the spec and it says the monitor a 20" lcd and it has a dvi-d slot where as my graphics card which is a 260gtx has a dvi-i slot.

Do i need to get a specific cable as the to outputs are slightly different?

many thanks

i think DVI-D is dual link. dual link allows you to run a monitor at very high res, like 2560x. if you use a regular single link DVI cable it won't go that high. best off buying a dual link DVI then you needn't worry.

ok cool yea that max res on native res on this monitor is 1600x900 but might just get a dual one for future preference, just to make sure tho as my graphics card is dvi-i and monitor is dvi-d it doesnt matter what cable i get out of the 2?

ok mate cheers for the link that helped a lot, the only thing is my graphics card says it supports dvi-i will a dvi-d cable still plug into it ok

Yeah it will do pal. If you look at is this way, your graphics card has the slots to take the pins on DVI-D cable, but your monitor doesn't have the slots to take the pins on the DVI-I cable. So, you want to get the DVI-D cable. ^^

I have just bought myself a new dvi-d cable but im having a bit of an issue, when i boot into XP everything seems fine but when i boot into windows 7 which is installed on another HD the windows 7 logo come up then the monitor just flicks between analog and digital then goes off! I am running the latest drivers from nvidia on both XP and 7, yet when i connect up with the vga cable it boots into both XP and 7 fine

any ideas why 7 is doing this? thought it might be the fact the 260 card i have says it has a dvi-i port on it and im using dvi-d as thats wat my monitor supports but if it boots into XP ok clearly that cant be the issue :(
