Now here is something with which I am sure we can all agree

I agree with the shop owner. If I'm talking to someone, anyone, I'll look at the phone and assess the right method of dealing with it. Most of the time the phone gets flipped over, if it's the wife I'll answer and tell her I'll call back. The person in my presence deserves my attention more than someone who isn't.

edit. Norwich and Norfolk confused, inbred reference removed.

Me and the mrs were talking about this the other night and both whole heartedly agree with it.
However, to play devils advocate i said:
"but isn't chatting to someone on your mobile phone, the same as chatting to someone standing next to you?"

That said, its not much of an argument really, mobile phone use in this way is bad manners, period!

I can't believe how rude and / or thick some people are with their mobile 'phones, stopping in the middle of supermarket aisles, pavements, trying to negotiate roundabouts with one hand, etc.

Well done Darren :)

man is an idiot, he is not there to compete for attnetion of the customers, he is there to serve them. If he doesn't like it he should take his arse out of the service industry.

I can easily walk into Costa while taking a business call, say '1 Large Hazzlenut latte to go please' without the need for the person serving to compete for my attention.

This.

Unless the person is a complete **** and is dilly dallying around. Personally I would try and wait til I could give someone my attention, but then again I don't take important business calls. :p

What's wrong with some people? How do people cope with real problems in their lives? Your phone rings , you answer it. Simple.

And as for that poor lass on the train minding her own business playing her bubble game and getting hassle from a stranger, then maybe its a good job she had her phone handy.

Don't drive but I do believe this is illegal whereas the others aren't.

He is there to serve those customers he wants to serve. His shop (I assume?), his rules.

So it's acceptable to hold up a queue whilst saying "one second" and continuing your mobile conversation? That, in my experience, is what happens a lot more than what you have said, probably because I was the other side of the counter for nearly three years.
