Now Hollywood wants Hotfile taken offline

hotfile is very strict on the piracy

I love the fact that people really believe this, they clearly can't be very strict on piracy if 90% plus of their business is on the back of pirated material. I think it's safe to say that if they had no pirated content they would not have a massively profitable business so they are clearly knowlingly profiting from the distribution of pirated material.

I'm not a fan of internet censorship but I really can't get upset about people who have got rich on the back of illegal activities having the plug pulled. Whats needed is common sense and common sense tells you that these sites shouldn't exist surely......

They're going to pick on the wrong site one day. One with money and connections. Then things will get very interesting.

In the meantime can Hollywood and Governments please stop ****ing around with the Internet.

Cheers.

It's so amusing that Hollywood wants more power, when they're already doing things like this... http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/...es-takedowns-for-files-it-hasnt-looked-at.ars

Hotfile alleges that Warner Brothers abused this takedown tool by submitting thousands of takedown requests for files it didn't own. Hotfile suggests these requests were generated by automated crawlers without adequate human supervision. For example, Warner Brothers owns the copyright for the 2009 movie The Box. Hotfile alleges that Warner Brothers scraped websites for hotfile.com links containing the phrase "the box," which of course led to takedowns for dozens of files that were clearly not Warner Brothers content. For example, Warner Brothers sought the removal of an audiobook called "Cancer: Out Of The Box" and a BBC production of "The Box that Saved Britain."

Indeed, some of the removed files were clearly not infringing at all.

They remove content when it's reported to them, this is the most they can be expected to do by anyone, I love the fact that you think taking down a filehost is going to change anything. People will simply change to another one.

I've only ever used hotfile for downloading firmwares & themes for my phone.

So hotfile does have a legit use. Whether you think they do or not. Where would you suggest I download my firmwares & themes?
