I use my Fiio E5 with the Xonar D1 and NS1000's. Works great.
afaik the E5 can be used with any sound card with 3.5mm stereo out jack (or with adapters for other suitable analogue connections etc.), but as you say, the DG already has an amp. Can't take it with you though
