Over on the adsl guide front page, breaking news. Glad im not stuck with NTL, looks like its going to get worse. It could not be avoided though really, 10meg true unlimited connection is not feasible.

Sorry I meant unshaped ;) Wonder if we will see crazy speeds on protocols like usenet, as seen on plusnet traffic shaping :/

Seems that they already included the traffic shaping T&C change in last months bill so it's already in effect. Not that I'm bothered as I don't use P2P and it's only at peak times for now so people that leave connections going overnight will still get their downloads, just taking a little longer.

ntl engineer came to my house today to replace my cable modem, now getting over 1mb/sec :D Not too bothered about traffic shaping at peak times as i download mostly over night and in the mornings via remote desktop from work, seems like a sensible move but it would have been nice to know via an email or something

There's an update on the webpage at the moment saying that it hasnt been brought in yet and it was a mistake adding it to the T&C

It has now been removed from there.

You'd better tell Telewest that :D

In all seriousness, traffic shaping is coming to both NTL and Telewest connections and we all know it. The key thing will be for them to implement it in a fair and considerate manner so as not to annoy a significant number of users.

The above stories indicated a possible future move to introduce shaping during peak hours in the evenings. If they need to curtail the rampant downloading from usenet and P2P usage during these times in order to maintain an adequate level of service for the majority of users then that's perfectly reasonable in my book. If you want to do a shedload of downloading then leave it running overnight or during the day when you're at work.
