NTSC GC on a PAL WII

Just found this :-)

A clever little bugger over at the MaxConsole has managed to 'hack' the Wii to play import games. Any PAL system can play any NTSC title using this clever little method, but it takes a bit of speedy manoeuvring. No wire cutting, no faffing about, nothing technical, just taking out one disk and putting in another. Here's how it works, step by step.

# Shove in a PAL GameCube disk
# Enter the Disk Channel section
# Point your Wii Remote at the start button but DON'T start the game just yet.
# Press the eject button on the Wii then, after a second or so, click on the on-screen start button on the Wii.
# The speedy bit: the moment your Wii chucks out the PAL disk, quickly whip it out and shove in the NTSC disk (you have to be VERY quick).
# The game should boot up as normal.

We tried it out and it works a treat, but it might take you a few goes to get the technique right. Let us know how you get on.

The swap method you mentioned works but isn't easy to get right... be prepared for several attempts before it works.

Alternatively, you could previously have used Datel's Freeloader, which works/worked for both the Gamecube and the Wii... however, the latest system update (version 3) released by Nintendo a couple of weeks ago prevents the Freeloader from working on the Wii :( :( :(

This is extremely annoying, imo, as the Freeloader doesn't allow you to play those backup games that some people have downloaded, it just allows you to play imported games - but they have to be original games and not the type that come on a CD-R with the name handwritten on the disc.

What's even more annoying is that I've heard that those people who have installed modchips in their consoles aren't being affected by the system update. It seems as though it's only the Freeloader owners that are being stung by this.

The official response from Nintendo is that they're powerless to help because Datel's Freeloader isn't an officially licensed product, so there's nowt they're gonna do about it for the moment. Unofficially, I hope Nintendo see that they've annoyed a large number of people with this, and if anything, they're likely to push those users towards using those pesky modchips, which could potentially lead to them not bothering to buy games after all.

At the moment, I've not updated my Wii but I'm sure that games such as Mario Galaxy will include the update within the game and force the installation... at which point I'll need to reconsider my options.

I've tryed the swop method for almost an hour lol without luck:(Problem is my TV is 55" so you have to be a few ft away from the TV for the Wiiote to work:(

The wii has no idea how big the TV is so that won't be an issue.

It's all about position relative to the sensor bar.

do the wii updates break the modchips etc? I remember reading an article about it and was lead to beleive it didnt matter how much software updating the wii got, if it was a launch console it would always work with the modchip to play the imports etc.. ?
