One of my housemates just told me that if i show my NUS card at McDonalds they'll give me a free quarter pounder? This doesn't sound very likely to me and its really something i would have found out about sooner if it were true.

Is he pulling my leg and trying to make me look like a foo' or am i just a few minutes away from tucking into a free burger?

it's true but i think you need to buy a meal as well. I've done it plenty of times but i've always bought a meal at the same time otherwise how would they prove that they haven't given you like a million in one day

Depends on McDonalds tbh

In bedford last year; one gave a hamburger with each meal another one gave a free upgrade to Large with ID

Burger, Cheeseburger or McFlurry when buying an Extra Value Meal

Pretty sure it's not a quarterpounder.

Edit: and some places won't do it on sight of an NUS card, but instead give you a MaccyD's student card that you can use on future transactions.

Doesn't need to be a NUS card, my local McDonalds does it with my University ID card.

It's a free Hamburger, Cheeseburger, or McFlurry, when bought with a meal.

Some McDonald's (The smaller ones as far as I remember) don't do the free McFlurry, but do the Hamburger and Cheeseburger.

Actually, the cards say on them: its either a hamburger, single cheeseburger or a mcflurry free when you buy a meal.

Used to be cheeseburgers but not anymore since they went off the 99p menu.

Also, I showed my NUS card at the Macdonalds and the woman gave me one of these cards and said to use it instead when I next needed to.

Next time i went in and presented it, the same woman asked if I had my NUS card instead....

One time i went to college with nothing/no money/food

Came back with

1 Big Mac
1 devon savouries saussage roll
1 Session at lazor quest
£2.50

this isnt related to the OP, but still

The good news: i got a free cheese burger with my meal.

The bad news: My gf convinced me to give it to her (the cheesburger, that is).

Nevermind. But cheers for the help guys :D

Most university towns does it, some burger King give 15% off discount too.

yup, buy a meal and get your free burger. last time i went to mcdonalds i ended up in hospital for 3 days, (nope, im not joking, i had to go to hospital for chronic food poisoning) enjoy.

You were obviously very unlucky. While the food isn't exactly gourmet quality, a large chain has a reputation to uphold and must take food safety etc seriously.

Any resataurant or franchise found to be guilty of poor food satefy I'd imagine would be in for a rough time from head office.

Whaaaaa??!!!!! I did not know about this! :D

I've found that it's quite random that some McDonalds need some special card (I was told in one in Kings Cross that you can get one off the website :S, not checked that out yet), the ones in Stoke need you to show them a 'Recover' card that you can pick up from the student union (at Keele and/or Staffs Uni I presume, or schools I guess), whereas my some other McDonalds just need me to flash my uni ID :S

Meh
