Nv G80 - anyone heard anymore of late?

Anyone heard any more about when this is due... last i read suggested early Q3'06, but that was several months ago... So whats the latest?

Ah, feared as much... well looks like GX2 it is then, if I want a new card.

Just putting a shopping basket together on OCuk ... ;)
 
Grab a new card now if you're in the market to buy, but i dont think your estimation of Q3 06 for the G80 is that far out. The 9700 Pro (first DX9 card) was released before DX9 and i'd bet that dx10 cards will be out before Vista (Vista's release day benefits from it), my guess would be around xmas as no company would want to miss out on that heavy spending time of year, plus if Vista is delayed further than Jan 07, ATI and NV would kick themselves.
 
i dont think ill be rushing to join the dx10 club not when dx9 is at its prime, (footage of crysis at e3 was in dx9) ;)

Second gen of anything will always be better. Yes, Crysis looked pretty damn sweet as you imply, and brings up a good point that even though its meant to be one of the first dx10 games coming out all the focus has been on what its like with dx9, my guess is because it will definately be released before DX10 comes out.

yep the only upgrade on my set up will be another 1900xt im in no rush for dx10 its just another gimmick

DX10 might be - but the next gen cards (DX10) certainly arent.
They are going to be faster, and ATI's will no longer need a master card for XFire, and no doubt their physics capabilties will be greatly improved.
 
I heard that you need a second PSU to run some of the next gen cards. I think OCZ have already designed one that fits in a spare 5 1/4 inch bay. This is starting to get a bit crazy. :eek:
 
Yes but why rush out for a DX10 card thats got bugger all to show for itself, so what if they are gona be faster in DX9, DX9 cards are not exactly struggling, im still getting perfecty playable frame-rates on a DX9 card, can't see why anyone would care if they are getting say 75fps on a DX9 card, but if they got a DX10 card it would run the same DX9 games at say 85fps, unless you think 75fps a totally unplayable jerkathon, and theres no way you could play games that ran that s l o w............ :(
 
I would assume that as they are completely new cores, that the difference wont be the same as the usual die shrink/speed increase that we usually get. Just the way they do the rendering will speed things up!
... but of course they could all cost two hundred zillion pounds ;) not really a good price/performance ratio! (maybe the 1900xt's will continue to plumit in price and turn out to be a killer price/performance ratio!!!)
