"We don't even know the codename of Nvidia's next generation 40nm GPU line but we know that the company should introduce them in Q2 2009. This means that both ATI and Nvidia will have their 40nm line at the same time.

This is quite dangerous for Nvidia as they won't be able to prepare or react on ATI 40nm RV870 line and if Nvidia ends up slower than ATI's next generation, it will have a major impact on Nvidia as a graphics chip company.

Nvidia wanted to get its 40nm chips before ATI but TSMC simply won't be ready to do these chips before Q2 2009. Nvidia tried to shrink its two-year-old architecture behind G92 to 55nm and G92b or Geforce 9800GTX+ didn’t get enough performance as Nvidia expected and the current step is to go for a full node 40nm process and try it all over again.

One important detail, don't expect these new GPUs in April which is the first month of Q2, when companies say Q2 this means late Q2 and we believe its realistic to expect these new GPUs from late May to mid June.

Nvidia has to win this one but at this point even Jensen can only hope that this will happen."

Yes it's Fud, but a couple of others in there as well. Looks like it's all to the wall with AMD's Little Dragon then.

On the offchance I need to upgrade my 8800GTX arround xmas if it struggles with any new titles then hearing this means the current 260/280's are gonna be bypassed, 4870 would def be my stopgap unless the 280's came down a hell of a lot.

£300+ now when these are out in April is a def no no for me

does this mean there is no new cards from either ATI or nvidia between now and next junish ??

Is ati's 5870 There 40nm gpu or they got that coming out between now and then ?

well 5850/5870 in 2009 q2 probably end of q2 or mid. between now end then i think we might see 280 55 nm maybe some kinda hybrid gx2 nothing much tbh

Yawn. How many times do we have to keep hearing how it will be doom & gloom if ATI/nVidia do not better the other this time around.

Im not sure i would wait at least 7 months from now and 5 from xmas for the next upgrade, i went from an 8800gtx and i have seen a big improvement.

I'll prob be proved wrong but the only game on the horizon that I plan to play that I'm also pretty sure will pound my GTX is Operation Flashpoint 2 which is Q2 2009 I think
