No, it's not well known at all. It's often said, but it's not true. In the UK, we pay the current USD conversion plus VAT. But it's because of people like you, who say it so much, that people who don't know any better think it's true. The same can be said for all those people who claim ATi/AMD drivers simply don't work, ever.

Actually to be fair it's not true anymore, it certainly used to be true a few years back - you would see hardware reviewed with the price in USD and the day it was released in the UK the price was the same only the currency symbol had changed.

Probably showing my age now lol
 
There is no such thing as an "accident" in marketing.

This is a ploy to make people stop and think when the 6900 series is released, wait now till the 500 series cards are released to see what the competition is like.
 
Although it could well be intentional, it could just as easily have been a typo. Go to hit 4 and you hit 5 by accident. Just throwing that in there [/stirring]
