Nvidia drops prices of GeForce GTX 980, GTX 980 Ti. But not for Europe

In an unexpected move, Nvidia Corp. reconsidered recommended pricing of its graphics cards following the introduction of its GeForce GTX 980 Ti early on Monday. Unfortunately, the GeForce GTX 980 Ti will be considerably more expensive in Europe than in the U.S.

While the MSRP of both GeForce GTX 980 Ti and GeForce GTX 980 seems to be very competitive in the U.S., the same cannot be said about the prices in Europe. The official manufacturer’s suggested retail price of Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 980 Ti for the U.K. is £549 including value added tax (VAT), which is $752.

Sigh... I look at all these folks drawn in by the hype and Nvidia's marketing who order the 980ti ASAP and facepalm.

Incidentally, what are the 980 price drops like in the US? Cheapest I've noticed here is £390 on OCUK. It sounds from the OP like they get better price drop across the pond. That'd be a mean move.

980's are running around $500 + any taxes in the states, which is roughly £325+, while the Ti works out at roughly £425+taxes. We always get a comparatively screwed so nothing new. I know what I'll be doing in Texas later in the year :D

Sucks but this is what happens when a company has ZERO competition

Price gouging for non US countries has nothing what so ever to do with NVidia not having any competition.

If NVidia have no competition, they have no competition the world over, or is there a secret GPU maker that is very competitive and only sells in the US. :)

$669 at Newegg for the MSI card.

That equates to £435

In US dollars, there will still be state tax to add (much like how we have VAT added, so the new math is:

£435 + 20% VAT = £522

i did see these much cheaper yesterday from other places but can't link or hint for breaking forum rules but that price of £522 was pretty close in fairness.

AMD have more than 10 users in the US perhaps?

Besides, we get shafted on nearly everything here, so nothing new.

For a guess that is because we will pay it and the Americans won't if they think they're being overcharged or they are just a bigger market and there are economies of scale?

I know a good few folks in the states and they just order online from a State that doesn't apply tax to the order. So it's shipped to them at tax free price.

Lucky buggers!!!

I ordered a monitor from Korea (one of the very first 4K 60Hz monitors and none being released in the UK for another 3 or so months) and it was a steal....Until customs got hold of it and charged me a fortune.

Yup, they can be nasty. I remember ordering some Koolance water blocks from the states in around 2009. Total cost was ~$180 with shipping. Irish import tax was €70, plus I had to pay UPS an extra "handling fee" €25. :/

The girlfriends going to Florida in July and they charge 6-8% vat, knowing my luck though she'd buy a 980 :haha:

The price for the EVGA SC ACX direct is £550 converted from Euro's. Don't know how much it would be to ship to here though.

Yer, I also had to pay UPS a handling fee but couldn't remember what it was. We do get it in the neck in the UK and does sting a bit :(
