Nvidia drops prices of GeForce GTX 980, GTX 980 Ti. But not for Europe

My brother lives in ROI, quite often if he's sending for stuff he gets it sent to some of us here in the north then collects it.

Yeah, it's really silly!

I've actually started more out of mid EU like Germany because of this. For somethings I can use Parcel Motel, which is where my order goes to them in Northern Ireland, and they I pay them €4 to ship to a locker near me.

Allows me to actually use the Rainforest, as most of the time resellers there or, they themselves can't ship to me apparently.

TBH if they aren't going to drop the price of the 970 because it's still selling so well, then there isn't much scope for 980 knock downs, granted they're only stealing sales from themselves, but it wouldn't make sense to leave the 970 as is and drop the 980 to within a few quid, they have to keep some level of hierarchy and consistency in the product list.

Is anyone really looking at the 980 today and thinking 'oh yeah, I'm gonna buy me that card, it's oozing of good value'? Price drop or none.

Is Kitguru a clickbait site?

The $649 MSRP for GTX 980 Ti has been known since launch, it's no news to anyone who paid attention to it. The previous $799 retail price rumour was just that, a speculation

As for the GTX 980, of course they dropped a price of it, considering the quality gap between that and the GTX 980 Ti.

Now, the European pricing includes VAT, and it's an unfair to compare products sold here with the tax-less American purchases, as tax not something a manufacturer has any control over.

$649 is about £424 at current exchange rate, which would equal to around £509.99 in the usual pricing schemes. That's excluding any launch mark ups, and bear in mind that the UK is surely getting a more limited stock of the new product than the US.

Edit: maybe I've spoken too soon, as it does appear that the starting price for the GTX 980 Ti is £549 across the UK stores.

lol.

Not at 400+, some €uro retailers have them around mid 300 GBP....would consider that if I was in the market for a 980, which I have been mulling over...but naw....want a Hybrid 980 ti, or a Fiji XT with similar cooling system...depending on performance and price.....which I suppose will prove even worse value than a 400 GBP 980, but at least they will be right at the cutting edge of desktop GPU technology for the next 18 months.

Wasn't a certain popular etail site (whose name means "to engage in enjoyable activities") able to ship DVDs from Jersey tax-free? Vaguely recall something along those lines.

Yep till the Government stepped in and stopped it.

Yes, until they clamped down on it and that website no longer exists

Not true as they then stopped selling stuff direct and became a marketplace then got bought up by a Japanese company. Still exists today. There were a few others who had to change their selling practices too..

Worth having imported? evga or something like that with world wide warranty

£250 - GTX 970
£350 - GTX 980
£550 - 980 Ti

Would be about right, ive seen 980s have dropped to around £380 on some sites

Well I'm just glad that I was fortunate enough to order 2x MSI GTX 980Ti before the retailer realized they were selling them below the suggested price point from Nvidia, and the quickly set the price up again. I saved £124 in total on that behalf.

Nice to see OCUK adding their extra markup though on top for the initial price gouge...

Seeing retailers charge 'mug tax' just because they can leaves a bad taste in mouth actually...but I don't bother too much. I know where I can source exactly what 980 ti variant I want without paying the surplus 10% 'mug tax' over the 'actual price'.

I was hoping we'd get a bit more of a cut on the 980s. I don't think I can really justify the ti (as much as I'd like to be able to) and I have a feeling that the 970 will get older, quicker, than any of its contemporaries. That leaves the 980 which is is widely considered to be shocking value for money but is it that bad? I've not really paid much mind to the 980 as I was always going for the 970 but is it a worthwhile increase it? I've been on my 670 since launch week so the end is near, I fear and I'll be needing to upgrade sooner rather than later :(

So long as Europeans are handing over their money to places like OCUK and buying up these high end products then Nvidia has little reason to reduce prices.

They may have reduced prices in US because maybe people were holding off buying anything until they saw AMD's new Fury X had to offer.

The second I saw OcUK's price, I went elsewhere. Never mind OcUK slap an extra 3% VAT on simply because I'm from Ireland. The only UK retailer to do that to me so far.
Plus unlike OcuK's Pre-Orders, they actually had stock.

My EVGA 980Ti Superclocked cards shipped yesterday. Should arrive in Ireland soon.
