nVidia drops the price of GTX460 AGAIN!!!!

I wonder why Nv has slashed a product that is selling bucket loads?

It seems to me that Nv is willing to sacrifice any available margin whatsoever in order to regain some market share. My guess is Jen wants to sell as many cards as possible between now and when Amd release their next gen, as it is surely easier for them to compete now rather than later.

Good news if they do chip away at the 768MB version of the 460. But IMO the pricing of the 1GB versions of the 460 are now too close to the 470. With quite a number selling at around the £200 mark! Still interested to know why the MSI 460 1GB Cyclone jumped £30, or so, over night! certainly can't blame the exchange rate (as is the usual case). Think my original comment in an earlier thread is probably going to be proved correct IE. repositioning current card to justify ludicrous price for the HAWK edition (a card that does not appear to OC much further than some of the current cards). We live in interesting times.

KitGuru says: We really don’t understand this price cut. Sure, it represents great value to KitGuru readers who were interested in the GTX460, but were looking for a bit more value. It also makes GTX460 SLi very attractive, but the GTS450 is also supposed to be followed by a slightly quicker GTS455 (GTX460 fall out part). If that happens, where can it possibly slide into this product stack? We are really asking.
lol that lot are dumb, the 460 768 has been cut not the 1GB and
they don’t understand this price cut
lol.

What on earth are you talking about, they are saying with a gts450 and gts455 , why are they dropping the price on the 460gtx, because they are just forcing those new cards to come in even cheaper.

IE if you want to sell a GTS450 at £120, and a gts455 at £130, why on earth would you drop a GTX460 to the £130-135 price bracket as you'll kill sales on a higher profit part, and they have a point.

The guess would be that the card isn't selling well to guys like Dell, who prefer more reliable 5770's that use less power.

Maybe they are dropping the price till the gts450 launches to get more sales to guys like Dell, maybe the gts450 has been delayed, who knows.

But back to what you were saying, what on earth has the fact the price cut isn't on the 1gb model got to do with pushing the lower end version into the price of their soon to be announced card?

Its more than possible they are just EOL'ing the 460gtx so clearing stock, making most of the GF104's as 475/460gtx 1gb versions and having properly failed parts as the GTS455 with a bunch more shaders, memory, mem bus cut off.

Did you miss the part where it's only the 460 768 thats been cut in price becuase no one is buying them, I don't see the 1GB going down in price, in fact it's going up. If it's not selling of course they are going to knock the price down. As of now the 768 model is £145 so plenty of room for Nvidia to price the lower cards in. kitguru is a trash site anyway, they report crap.

Who says the lower end NVidia parts are going to come in at £120, could be £100-£120 even less.

Take their Dirt 2 benchmark for example, a 480 easily beats out 5870 in this game, I know I have had a 5870, yet they report a 3 fps difference.

And now a professionally done benchmark of Dirts 2.

No 480 but even a 470 beats out a 5870.

Yeah top site, no bull with them.

Yeah I can see, v good review of the setup. Shame they run out of vRam at the higher resolutions & hurts the min framerates. But still impressive for the cost imo

Sweet monitor, you could probably max the res out with the 460's in most if not all games, just lay of the AA, I doubt using such a high res you would require any sort of AA anyway?
