** NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 900 SERIES PRICE DROP!! **

but 1080 is a good performance upgrade from 980ti no ?

Yes 1080 is a good leap, but a 980Ti is not slow, to be honest 980Ti should handle any game.

It is only 4k and VR where 980Ti may struggle and this is where 1080 is vastly superior.

If you want the best and always upgrade then yes 1080 is better, but you need to ask yourself, DO YOU NEED TO UPGRADE. ;)

From what I'm reading, 980ti and 1070 are very similar in performance with the 1080 being 20%+ faster. Sounds like the 980ti overclocks better though...

Business as usual on OCUK. All the cheapskates commenting on what they think something is worth, even though they've not spent more than £200 on a single piece of hardware in their lives.

Ohh so people who have more money are allowed to comment on what something is worth? Or people have spent more money on hardware because they have a bigger budget? Very nice mentality you have there.
I spent about 600 on my 980Ti and think the 10 series so far are priced to high here in the UK. Does my opinion count or am I a cheapskate too?

Shame those people that may have higher priorities than computer hardware..

I would also add owning a 3440x1440p panel I have found the 980Ti struggle a little on a few games maxed out, I would say right now a 980Ti (and 1070) is perfect for 2560 x 1440 and below, if your going over that res then the 1080 is definitely worth it.

You plan on going for a GSYNC 1440p panel?

I believe the most expensive piece of computer hardware I have bought was my 1440p monitor at around £470. Most I have spent on a video card around £300.

I just won't buy anything i believe is overpriced and poor value for what it is.

If you think a video card is worth £620 to you then good for you ;)

Thing is with price is that it's relative to the person buying. If you're earning £20k a year before tax than a £600 graphics card is a lot harder to justify than if you're earning £55k and have that much more disposable income.

What is a lot of money to one person is pocket change for another so I think some of the criticism of people buying the 10 series is a bit daft.

That said, for me, the 1080 is overpriced enough in my eyes for me to not buy it but if people want to buy one then that's their choice to do so and no-one should be criticised for buying something they want to buy. By all means criticise the price but I don't think it should stray to criticising people for buying.

I bet they see you coming all the time :D

Well for me it's not so much about how much I earn but what I perceive to be value for money and that's important to me, higher earnings doesn't abolish that principle, my boss for example is a millionaire and he certainly doesn't go around buying anything he desires, he wouldn't be where he is now if he did.

Exactly :)

is it even worthwhile buying a £400 980ti now?

Not really? I mean why would you when the 1070 is the same price? Similar performance but the 1070 is newer.

You could argue that the 980ti is a true high end part and the 1070 is mid range though I guess.

The 980ti will be a good second hand purchase once the prices settle down though.
