is it even worthwhile buying a £400 980ti now?
New? Definitely not. Second hand for sub £300 is the way to go!

The 980 Ti being a former flagship (or close enough) is irrelevant really. .
Business as usual on OCUK. All the cheapskates commenting on what they think something is worth, even though they've not spent more than £200 on a single piece of hardware in their lives.
I would also add owning a 3440x1440p panel I have found the 980Ti struggle a little on a few games maxed out, I would say right now a 980Ti (and 1070) is perfect for 2560 x 1440 and below, if your going over that res then the 1080 is definitely worth it.
You plan on going for a GSYNC 1440p panel?
but you need to ask yourself, DO YOU NEED TO UPGRADE.![]()
You could argue that the 980ti is a true high end part and the 1070 is mid range though I guess.
.
It's pointless though
Anyone buying a 980ti for more than 300 needs to have a word with themselves TBH...
You could argue that the 980ti is a better card as it is 384 bit bus and was designed as a true high end part rather than a new gen mid range.
You can't play die size or memory bus width... a faster card is still faster card regardless of it's architecture or design
People seem to struggle with this...
All that is happened is the goal posts have moved
Gimped pascal with a gimped bus and gimped cores can beat last gen un gimped architecture
Of course the 1080 is gimped...
Full fat pascal 1080 ti will be a monster...
The 1080 is just the 980
1070 is just the 970 etc...
Rather ironically the 980ti was a gimped gpu being based on a cut down version of the Titan x die!!
Still I guess much like 'mid range' I will have to get used to a new definition of 'gimped' which now apparently means there's a product with a bigger die/ and or memory bus coming at some point perhaps... In the future
Not the more usual use of the term to mean 'something which has been partially disabled or restricted'
The 1080 is just the 980 ...
Of course the 1080 is gimped...

1080ti is gimped compared to 1180ti
