Nvidia maybe forced to use the 102 for the 4080 if AMD are strong again which is looking likely but no doubt they will make it more profitable this time with a higher price tag.

They may also use a 103 chip next time, they have a 103 this gen clearly now. So maybe next time if AMD are still doing okay with gpus they may just make the 4080 on a 103 instead of the usual 104 chip they have been using (until this gen where they used a 102 for 3080).

Nvidia won't be making the same mistakes next gen and wiping out their Titan cards or giving 4080 users the 102 chips and if they do well expect 80Ti prices on the 4080 from the start.

i got my aib Asus Strix oc 3090 for 1.5k, this was before miners went nuts

While people were screaming £1400/$1500 was mad and too expensive for a 3090.. Then they later paid more for a 3080 than what a 3090 cost at msrp..

And now back to reality...

Custom RTX 3090 Ti Costs 66% More Than RTX 3090 In Europe

https://www.tomshardware.com/news/custom-rtx-3090-ti-costs-66-percent-more-rtx-3090-europe

Nvidia's latest and greatest GPU approaches the equivalent of $4,000

It looks like PC DIY enthusiasts should brace themselves for further price shocks as the first European listings for custom Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti designs have started to emerge. At the official launch of the Nvidia reference GeForce RTX 3090 Ti earlier in the month, Nvidia avoided sharing any pricing or availability dates. Still, the pair of MSI custom designs we have gone up for sale in Switzerland for the equivalent of $4,000 or thereabouts.

MSI GeForce RTX 3090 models
Above, you can see some screenshots of the retail listings from the aptly named Swiss etailer Top Preise. If you click left and right, you can switch between listings for the MSI GeForce RTX 3090 Ti Suprim X, MSI GeForce RTX 3090 Ti Gaming X Trio, and their non-Ti brethren from the same outlet. These price uplifts are pretty astonishing, with this reseller adding up to a 66% premium on the new halo cards from MSI and Nvidia.

The upgrade going from the GeForce RTX 3090 to RTX 3090 Ti might be nice to have but paying this much for the only modestly improved (on paper) Ti would likely be mostly for bragging rights. There is some hope that these prices could be early placeholder prices, but the untidy sums suggest otherwise.

As we covered at the Nvidia RTX 3090 Ti Founders Edition launch, the new GeForce champ offers a minor bump in CUDA core count, using a fully-enabled GA102 GPU, giving it 84 SMs (streaming multiprocessors) and 10,752 CUDA cores. The 'plain old' RTX 3090 has 82 SMs and 10,496 CUDA cores - not much of a downgrade in percentage terms. In addition, memory bandwidth should be improved, with Nvidia upgrading the 24GB GDDR6X to 21Gbps, with denser ICs, and halving the memory chip count for more direct cooling. At the time of writing, we still don't have Nvidia confirmed core clocks for the RTX 3090 Ti, nor these MSI custom cards.

As a footnote, it is exciting to see this latest retailer spill given that only days ago, multiple outlets said their sources had alerted them to a halt on GeForce RTX 3090 Ti production due to issues with both hardware and firmware. Before this rumor hit the fan, we comfortably accepted Nvidia's guidance to get further first-hand details about the RTX 3090 Ti later this month.

This thing has been priced like a collector’s edition and will likely be equally hard to find. NVIDIA’s greed knows no bounds. In comparison, AMD maintained such a clean lineup with 6900XT and 6800XT being their high end GPUs. With NVIDIA we have 3080 10GB, 3080 12GB, 3080 Ti, 3090 and 3090 Ti all of which are only adding to supply issues as tre lower tier SKUs are being held to ransom just so NVIDIA can inflate their margins.

The difference is AMD produces a fraction of the GPU's that Nvidia does. Most of AMD's 7nm is used on consoles and CPU's where as virtually all of the Samsung 8nm is used on consumer grade GPU's so Nvidia can afford to have multiple SKU's. Besides the chances are the 3080 10Gb has probably been discontinued.

Wish i hadn't sold my Strix 1080ti in that fateful sept pre-3000 launch, wanted to be a early adoptee of a new GPU for once, well we can all imagine how that turned out. Waited months for a chance on a 3090, finally in may/21 grabbed one for £1700, kept stum amongst friends and family incase of being sent to bedlam. If ide have kept that 1080ti...i would have a new appreciation for it. NV aint getting another penny from me, the 3090ti looks a botch job imo, and cash grab.

Also AMD are bringing out 6750xt, 6850, 6850xt and 6950xt too, just to mess up your clean lineup statement (They all don't care it's just a cash grab free for all)... :- https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-rum...avi-21-22-cards-with-18gbps-memory-in-q2-2022

Blame tsmc they are taking the ****, they've raised the wafer prices by 60% to 80% depending on node, since covid started. Tsmc is making money hand over fist and probably light their cigars with hundred dollar bills

Building bleeding edge fabs costs a metric **** ton of money , the new fab in the USA will cost $12 Billion (at last years prices, so expect that to increase); TSMC spent $30 Billion on new process and output in 2020. Being on the bleeding edge costs a lot of money and its why GloFo and UMC arnt in that game anymore.
