** NVIDIA GTX 1080 FOUNDERS EDITION: WANNA PRE-ORDER?

Whats the deal with the founders edition other than having it early for £100 more? Does Nvidia have a release date for the normal edition, and will it actually be £100 less?

It's called 'founders' edition so people don't think they're getting bent over for a reference card, which within a month will look like crap compared to the non ref cards they should have waited for.

Vast majority won't even see it in a case anyway. I have a 980 ref in my case, all I see is the black back-plate and green nvidia logo. Shroud could be gold encrusted with dancing leprechauns emblazoned across it, I wouldn't know!

Way I see it though, outside of the first adopters who must have this card on release, the only people it's for are those who will be buying x2 of them, as obviously it's going to be the best for SLI with the rear exhaust. But for anyone wanting a cooler, faster, quieter card which they can OC to the max, why on earth would they look twice at the FE? As has been mentioned though, the high price of this actually quite average card is only going to bump up the price of the superior AIB ones, above the price of the FE. :(

Historically, have there been aftermarket blower style coolers that have been better than the reference one? I run a small form factor case and a blower cooler is a must.

And this IS a high end card, NOT midrange (for those who are saying it is). :confused.

It's a mid range chip(GP104) replacing a mid range card (GTX 980)

Why is it suddenly high end? Because it's faster than the previous gens high end? After a die shrink the mid range has nearly always been faster than previous generations high end card, but we never called them high end cards before. So why now?

Well, i just got a very special price from my friend for 980Ti : around £225 . I am looking at the 1500 mhz 980Ti result , i am not sure i should get 1080 after all.

What do you think guys?

I think it is wrong to take advantage of your friend in this way. Does he know what it's REALLY worth? If he does, great... Nvidia should hire him as head of their sales team as he's clearly a very benevolent guy! ;)

Total rubbish.

I am a genuine enthusiast who does not believe in selling on classic cards when something faster turns up.

I don't think I will be posting any info on what GTX 1080 purchases or any future GPU purchases I make because of posts like yours.

Don't listen to haters...

Yeah, i do the system upgrade for him. So i tell the complete truth about the upgrades/price etc. End of the day, he's decision to make the call. That's why i got it cheaper . I always do the 4 computers maintenance for free.
Because of him i use SSD for free and the GTX 580 with 3GB Vram. Not to mention the free AMD FX CPU from AMD :D

Back to the throttling subject, i am kinda shocked to read what is going on with the clocks at GTX 1080 . Kinda remind me about AMD back ...

Do we know which cards will have limited stock and which wont ?

Also is the suggestion that the EVGA model would be the prefered for overclocking because of its superclock bios ?

Although the Zotac is best warranty wise with its 5 years?

Normally EVGA stamp SC on the box if it has the superclock BIOS and charge a slight premium, not seemingly the case here.

Besides being SC at least for the Titan X does not mean it overclocks any better manually. Just by default the card holds higher speeds. Nothing you can't do manually yourself by applying an overclock in Precision X et al.

Bite his hand off.....NOW!!

LOL :D
I think i will wait for custom cards cooler performance . If they are not so impressive(Founders editions are definitely not) , i will recommend to wait for 1080Ti . I know i will lose a good deal but still.....

Buy the 980TI! That's insane value for money. You'd probably sell it on for £225 by the time the 108TI is out.
