NVIDIA GTX 970 OWNERS THREAD

Aye it's usually core that makes the driver restart with a DX error, you can usually tell when it's memory as you'll get a solid colour screen crash, usually black or grey and need a hard reset.

That's around what most get to cjo20, adding voltage only helps add a few more mhz or stabilise the clock.

Thing is it's mostly bench stable, some games will work fine but I've found others that will crash after a while. This could be the overclock or stability issues with the overclock on a new architecture and drivers. Games like Diablo 3 will crash for me with anything over +160 on the core, whereas BF4 will work for hours on +200.

That doesn't mean they can be flashed to a 980. If they could be someone would have done it by now or it would be known about as other 970's have the same PCB as their bigger brother 980.

Looks very similar to the MSI with the 2 larger fans, someone said the Galax above are regarded the best clockers from another forum although it's usually just silicone lottery, none of the models run hot enough for the cooler to make that much of a difference, the power phases can make a small difference but the Gigabyte models don't seem to clock any higher on average than the MSI ones that have a lower power target.

I thought that as well but a few people with high ASIC % cards haven't been able to overclock as well as some people with lower ASIC % cards. Purely silicone lottery so far on these I think until a company releases a lightning model or something with higher voltage and power that can show higher clocks, or we get custom BIOS.

Anyone using K-Boost function in EVGA Precision X? Seems to make overclocks a lot more stable, the downside is it's running at boost clock and whatever the highest voltage is you have set all the time.

Stops the fluctuation in power states, voltages and clocks whilst gaming which I think is causing crashing for some people above certain clocks in certain games.
