I know there not really to be compared but I was going to possibly pick up a 680 locally for just under £400 but am trying to convince myself its worth £100 more than say a 7950

Just cant decide what to do, im stuck with a gt430 atm lol but dont know whether I should go get something asap or should I wait and hope 670's come out soon.....

You can do that all day ;)

Lol i know.....

What do you play, and what sort of settings do you expect to have configured? Resolution?

As Rusty0611 says, buy the best you can afford. This is sensible advice.

Mostly FPS and the odd racing game such as LFS but that can be played using the on chip gpu, BF3, Alan wake etc etc

1920x1080 on a single screen

I had a 580 which was perfect but I found it a little noisy in my matx case tbh so I passed that on to a mate, so something that can perform to similar levels to that and from what i can tell a 7850 overclocked is about the same? But the question is how loud will that be, i cant do loud

I've got the money for the 680, my problem is I tend not to keep for that long and I guess my biggest concern is loosing more money on that than I would on a cheaper card... (I know there is nothing that can be done about that)

the 7850 twin frozr iii looks a good card for about half the cost of the 680.... and here I go again

last ati card i had for a reasonable length of time was a 5850 had loads of problems with drivers and vowed i wouldnt get another ati again hopefully there a lot better now as there is something about the 7950 thats tempting me especially that £293 one here :)

Wouldn't be me.

Losing 50% on a highly clocked 7850 is the wise mans choice!

Get another one in a couple of months if need be when the offers come rolling in(and AMD sort out CrossFire) and you will be laughing.

2 highly clocked 7850's will slaughter any of the 79's/6's gpu's in single oc'ed guise.

and will cost the same as 1 680 and more than 1 7950.....

and the amd sorting crossfire out is what worries me, if they havent sorted it yet are they ever likely too?
