7200 GS is the name

We've already told you that the new G78 chip is coming, a new part based on a shrunken G72 marchitecture and you can read about it here.

This is only a DirectX 9 part, but it will be passively cooled and many OEM's will want to get a piece of that action. The card is also available as a low profile card and has VGA and DVI out. The best part of it is that it will give the 7100 GS and X1050 parts a run for their money, as it should score better and it measure just 60 square millimetre.

This is Nvidia's first 65 nanometre part and they introduced it before ATI managed to get its RV630 and 610 out of the TSMC fab in real quantities.

Nvidia markets this card as a great solution for Vista and it is a low cost upgrade solution that will beat all integrated graphics solutions currently available. Graphzilla also claims that it will sell for $50, while we found out that in Euroland the cheapest one will cost about €30 to €35.

You can pre order one here and we are sure that the OEM's will have them in their systems any day now.

But it's not a 8800 or G90 card :(

Tbh they should have spent the effort getting that into a better card. imo. ;)

I wonder which one they make more money out of...? ;)

It's the sad truth that we don't represent a 'significant' chunk of their market. We should consider ourselves loucky they provide for us at all.

I think Nvidia (and AMD) make a lot more money from low-end and midrange parts than they do from their top-end cards so it isn't a big surprise to see them using a smaller die size for those parts.

smaller die size means more cores per wafer = more profit.

Just like the x1950 XTX, that was only released by ATi so they culd say 'we got the first GDDR4 card out', now what a suprise, nvidia release a low end 65nm card just before ATi lauch their 65nm ones so they can say 'we got the first 65nm card out', its priceless. :D

Of course its only a Dx9 card and not a Dx10 8800 or something, its just so they can say 'we were first with a 65nm card', they aint gona release a top end card just to say that, any crappy card will do as long they get a 65nm out first before ATi, could have been an old Voodoo2 for all they care, 65nm before ATi is all that matters, they gona be know for getting to 65nm first now. :D

ATi will still be able to say they got the first DX10 65nm card out ;)

I know, it just seems a waste that's all. :p

Not suprised that they used the Entry level chips to test the process on, it allows them to perfect the design on a smaller process at a cheaper price. This way the wastage in the learning process is not as expensive.

Once they have learnt the tricks of the 65nm process then we will see it arrive with the more powerful cards that are more expensive to manufacture.

Intel and AMD both do this as well.

excellent, cousins i know have standard dell machines with integrated gf6100 gfx cards so they will love this solution which is better for vista. gonna see if nvidia pull out a 7600 based card at 65nm would be brilliant.

just read on nzone forums that the 7300gt nvidia is trying to push out old stock so that they can introduce a 65nm 7300gt card. thats gonna awsome with low power consumption and half height size too. finally some gaming is possible for integrated gfx card users.
