NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - (PRE)ORDER DISCUSSION **NO COMPETITOR HINTING**

Love how £2160, still over MSRP is seen as cheap!

With the £ doing better against the $ it should be going the other way of MSRP.

Not sure many other than people like Jensen Huang or Elon Musk would consider even the MSRP of 5090 'cheap'. However it is good to see some cards are starting to get cheaper than they were over the last couple of months. Paying £2-£300 over FE pricing seems way more palatable than the £1000+ premium for the Suprim or Astral.

I'm still on the fence between 5090 or just save £1000+ and go for the 5080. Common sense would suggest the 5080, the niggling desire for the fastest card is pushing me towards the 5090. If I could pick up a 5090 FE I probably would not hesitate especially if they reduce the GBP price again due to weakening USD. Unfortunately Nvidia seems determined to keep availability of that to an absolute minimum which no doubt keeps AIBs and retailers happy as they don't have to compete against MSRP.

Unless you have a 4k high refresh rate monitor, the 5090 is overkill.

Monitor is 4k 144hz. I'm sure 5080 would cope with most tasks/games etc but I think even a 5090 is only giving 80-90fps in some games like Black Myth Wukong 4k/High settings so makes you wonder what upcoming titles will need in the next couple of years. I'm not too unhappy paying for something that last a few years rather than having regrets buying a lower tier card.

Very true!
I come from a Quake 3 background, used to turn the settings down to go mental high FPS and don't need a great GPU for that. :D

One factor where the 5090 really comes into its own is high pixel density VR headsets like the Crystal. The performance increases I got moving from the 4090 to the 5090 in Digital Combat Simulator while flying the F-4E are massive. Experience wise it was significantly smoother, and FPS wise I think I got a 40-50% benefit.
But then again if you're in the market of flight simming and high res VR headsets - you're going to be burning money beyond most conventional games and kind of have to acknowledge the price premium that comes with it. However, it wasn't too long ago that getting 90FPS in VR in these circumstances was unthinkable.
For example:

I guess I'm at the opposite end. I always want to turn on all settings to high/ultra and now am running games where for my 3090 they are defaulting the auto settings to medium. Only way to keep up is new hardware.

You're right. At least here you get some like minded people. Try telling family/friends you are going to spend £2k+ on a PC component and they look at you like you are insane.
I don’t know anyone irl who is into PCs as much as me. Some of my friends barely have their own computer - ‘my phone does everything’. Very glad forums like this exist.

It's a big rad, 38mm thick plus fans and extends a bit either side of the fans.
However, it is a thing of beauty, and don't drop it on your toes... ;)
Update on my build: A huge radiator and thick fans with a very short plug. It went in the side of the 5000D because it didn't fit on the top. And it can't be reversed either, so I am now exhausting on the side, back and top, intake is on the front alone. The glass panel closes with no issue. Temps are low 50 in game for both the Astral LC and for the 9800x3d. Finally, I don't have to use frame gen to get a decent performance, lol.
I had to set power target to 90%, otherwise the per pin ampere check would trigger. I am replacing PSU next week, going from a corsair AX1600i to a seasonic prime tx-1600 noctua edition, hope that fixes this. Although, the performance has not changed by reducing power target.
