No... GTX980 = 1216 boost
980Ti = 1076 boost
Only aftermarket cards exceeded the 980 reference clockspeed. But then non-reference 980s were able to go even higher.
I expect the 1080Ti / Titan P will be released with about 1500MHz on the core and will probably overclock to 1700-1900... whereas the 1080 can go to 2000-2200
It will still be a good performance boost... but 30-40%, not 50%.
Pretty sure 980Ti's and 980's could both overclock to similar speeds.
980 just happened to come with a higher out-the-box clock, likely to further separate it from the 970(which was only a mildly cut down GM204) and also show a more impressive advantage over the 780Ti/Titan on release.

Can't belive anyone would be excited about the Titan after the last one.... Ti came out not long after for the same performance at a fraction of the price. The 1080Ti is where it's at. ** edited.. stop baiting ***
Yup my bad, just got a confuzzled by the way they switched from talking about holding a Tesla then getting hold of a Titan then onto the quadro/Titan heatsinks.

If you've progressed from a an E-weaner through E-peen to E-dong, you certainly don't need a Titan

Really can't see it myself not for the Ti.
Regular 1080's will drop in price when the Ti hits.
Titan yes, sky's the limit with that one.
I know the $ rate (at present) is obviously going to make things more expensive though.
Volta is the next upgrade cycle for us
I know how you feel, no need to upgrade because other peoples rashes started to give you an itch. Goddamn upgrade itch! Nothing is coming that will need that power, unless you want to do a multi-VR experience (2 player VR?) in the future? No point buying something until you have a real need for it.

Considering the 980ti was probably the best selling card next to the 970, no, it wont be cheap, why not? because Nvidia know their customers love the ti cards and will milk them hard with it.
Im wondering if they will pull another lame trick again with the Titan P by shafting the buyers of that by releasing the 1080ti shortly after with near on the same performance, if they do that again...
Nvidia have already shown the trend in pricing their cards is just going up, the TitanX was a massive price compared to the 980, then the 980ti dropped, at similar performance but a lot cheaper, but still much more than the 980.
If they continue that trend, expect to see £900-£1000 1080ti cards.

Look pal, you have done this several times now and I actually don't normally care but there is people out there who will and they are more than happy with their Titans, Titan Xs and you calling them mugs is not only disrespectful but wrong!

if no one buys 1080 you won't see any better card any time soon.
Titan X cost the same amount as a Titan.
980Ti cost less than a 780Ti.
980 cost less than a 780, although different lines so to compare with 680, it cost a bit more.
970 cost less than a 670(and 770 if you want to count that).
1070 MSRP is less than 670/770, but more than 970.
1080 MSRP is higher than 980.
Looks to me that Nvidia simply shifts prices as needed, based on competition, demand, and lineup.
As others have said, unless AMD blow farts instead of delivering with Vega, I can see Nvidia shifting the 1080 price down once the bigger cards hit, making more room for the 1080Ti and new Titan.
