Hello all,

I've got a B550 that supports 2 NVME, the top slot I have a 1tbh NVME that I use for games, I was thinking about getting rid of my SSD that has windows on and replace it with another NVME to save on cable clutter.

So my question is does it matter what slot the Windows NVME drive goes in either top or bottom?

Not unless you buy a gen4 drive, that needs to go in the gen4 slot b550 only supports one.

So the bottom NVME slot can be my boot drive without issues leaving the faster Gen 4 top slot purely for games folder?

My top slot has a gen4 drive. so I'll buy a cheaper gen 3 for the boot drive bottom slot.

Also can a gen 3 drive work in a gen 4 slot and vice versa? just the speeds wont be there I'm guessing in gen 4.

Correct and yes gen 3 will work in gen 4 and vice versa.
