Anyone know of where i can get a sim card (PAYG) for New Zealand?

Seen two on ebay, but both end too late.

Cheapest i can find is £30.

Or does anyone have a simcard by any random chance?

Leaving Sunday.

Im thinking whether it may be cheaper to use a PAYG from here to text here/numbers there (UK).

Ive seen a few networks do this sort of pricing:

T-Mobile:

Making a Call - 75p/min
Receiving a Call - 70p/min
Text to UK - 40p

Orange:

Contract (my simcard):

Making a Call - £1.75/min
Receiving a Call - £1/min
Text to UK - 40p

PAYG:

Making a Call - £1.75/min
Receiving a Call - £1/min
Text to UK - 50p

Virgin:

Making a Call - 95p
Receiving a Call - 60p
Text to UK - 35p

vodafone nz

simcard $35 without topup
$0.89 to uk land/mobile anytime day or night ~39p / minute
$0.30 int. text ~12p / text

Can top up anywhere, everywhere sels sims (DSE, Voda, Noel Leamings etc)

Looks like it may have to be that.

Will that work on my D900 - it should do once unlocked, right?

It got any pricing on texts to UK?

Ahh just seen above.

So im looking at ~12p a text to UK?

~40p per min

Works on a normal unlocked up phone, i used my d500 out there updated last post, where you get the sim you have to phone CS first and ask for the motormouth price plan and then it goes down to $0.49 a minute to NZ Landline/Voda and UK Mobile/Land

Looks like i may have to do it that way, just have to pay £13 for the sim.

Ive seen on vodafone NZ, it says you can use the vodafone NZ sim in UK as normal - what about a UK Vodafone sim there?

Just checked Vodafone UK in NZ is similar to above (my post).

Looks the best bet to get the Vodafone NZ Sim Card then.

You been to New Zealand i take it? Where abouts?

To above:

We will arrive in Auckland, and might have enough time (30 mins) to pop in and get one. As we will be changing flight to get to Wellington.

Lived in Auckland (3 years on and off), parents still do and (my fam) might one day

Have been everywhere in the north island and a wee bit of the south

To do a domestic transfer you have to exit the airport and walk or shuttle to domestic about 2 miles away but you bagage should be taken for you if your flying with airnz again

TBH You can get sims at any electrical store (dick smiths, noel leeming) or any westfield mall with have atleast 2 stands/stores I wouldnt bother rushing, however there is a Mac D just to the left or the quar exit ;)

One other thing travel money? If you havent yet the best two for me were Marks+Sparks for there and then Or travelex (pre booked)

And lastly to point out again if you change to the motormouth plan (which is free) its 39c a min for a call

I'll leave you alone now!

We used to live there mate :).

Just never bothered with mobiles over there - as they were never really used when we lived there (97-01).

We've never gone through Auckland before Wellington, as we normally go UK > Hong Kong > Brisbane > Wellington, but now its UK > Hong Kong (fuel) > Auckland > Wellington.

The motormouth - is it that price to UK or just in NZ?

NZ - Land and 021 (voda)
UK - Land + Mobile

I always go via LA for the easy transit, more baggage and easy with firearms and pay more :(.

We didnt want to be waiting around too long in Quar.

So it is 39c to UK Land/Mob, or have i misunderstood?

So Motormouth is best? And free to use/sign up (bar topup)?

Is that what you'd go for if you were gonna text/ring UK & also NZ?

Yes

For texting makes no difference, but yes as its the cheapest to call home or nz national numbers

Okay, sorry again - can this all be done by for example picking up the simcard, sitting in the car and setting it up then top up? Same as for example O2.

Get simcard > Set it Up > Top Up > Motormouth Plan?
