o2 and iPhone

Hey,
I want to get an iPhone 3GS Black 32GB and I know I can get it for approx £34 per month with a £275 up front fee. Someone told me that you pay the upfront fee and your normal contract each month but that o2 credit the £275 back in installments over the duration of your contract.

Is this true?
