I've never noticed my conenction being shaped to the degree that link shows. I think that's a little bit scaremongery.

Basically if you have an existing contract you don't have to move on to the new package, it should just keep rolling forward on a month-by-month basis.
He also told me they will be making people move over the coming months.

He joined before unless he's totally oblivious.
I'm sure they'll move everyone across to the new packages eventually.
Im still on the "O2 Home Broadband Premium" package, thats where its staying. My contract ran out for the second year on 06 December 2010, still havent had a call about it. Guess its just on a rolling monthly setup now.
Done and dusted in 30 seconds - not going to fall for these shennanigans
Good on youI'll have to advise my mum to ignore any O2 calls if this is the tactic they're using to downgrade customers usage limits.
One little trick they do is tell you that there is a cooling off period however this does not mean that you will be put back on the original legacy package but will be given the option to leave.
If/when that happens I'll just get her to move over to Be, sure it's a little more expensive but at least they're to remain truly unlimited for the foreseeable future.
Mum had O2 phone up today. She simply said that we're not interested in changing our contract and they should said any details in the post for Dad to look at.
I presume it was to try and get us to downgrade the package as we're only paying £7.50p/m for unlimited 24meg!
Fortunately Mum's wary of technology related spam calls (and it's all Dad's responsibility not hers) especially as "Sam from Microsoft" phoned yesterday.
One line about 2-3 years ago, the other in september 2010. Nothing I do on the newer line behaves any differently to the older one.
