Is it possible to leave O2 online and move to O2 offline and take your number with you?

I want to stay with O2 but my contract was up 6 months ago and all they are offering me as an upgrade is another 12 months of the same contract which isn't worth doing.

For O2 new customers the phone I am after is free but in the shops its £150+.

I don't mind paying £100 towards it but to pay all of it is steep.

Been with O2 online for nearly 3 years and never once got discount on an upgrade.

I had a simmilar situation 2 years ago..

Phone them up and say you are leaving and ask for your mac/pac code (i forget which one is for adsl and which is for mobiles) and see if they make you an offer.

i found what they offer you depends on how much you spend.. and if you are someone who is on a fairly cheap contract with lowish bills every month they will gladly be rid of you.

Other than that you can just cancel your old contract and take out a new one and get the phone for free!

Failing that if you went to another operator you could most likely take your number with you.

They wont allow an o2 to o2 to go through, if u want to do it, you need to get your pac, put it to another network payg sim, like t-mobile, then back into the new contract. If you need any help just ask :)

So an online to offline is possible but its really just a transfer of tariff and not really an upgrade were one might get discount during the move?

I want to remain with O2 due to network coverage in my area and I have to keep my number which is vital.

I thought that when you cancelled your contract and moved your number to PAYG, you couldn't take out a 12 month contract with that number again. Once it on PAYG it stays as PAYG.

It used to be like this so has it all changed?

Relax. In a genius stroke, O2 offline (regular consumer O2) are a completly different company to O2 online. I know they are owned by the same company, running on the same network and share the same name.

But to all intents and purposes, for what you want to do, they are. Ask for a PAC and port accross to O2 off line and enjoy.

FYI, CPWS (carphone warehouse serices) is the same sort of thing. So you can be on O2, but with CPWS, you can port to normal offline O2 too. However their CS is terrible, so be careful. If you spend too much money (around £50+) per month, you get moved to O2 Select. Priority CS, early upgrades, etc, etc. But if your with them then you really are spending too much money on your phone. Like me :(
