Hi folks,

I am eligible for an upgrade on my o2 phone this week and have a couple of questions...

The handset I am after (Samsung P300) is available for free when signing up for a new contract but o2 are quoting me £129.99 to upgrade to this handset and I ain't willing to pay that. What seems strange to me is why is the handset so expensive on upgrade yet available for free to new customers and, is there anything stopping me actually cancelling my current contract and then just taking out a new contract? That way, I'd lose my current number (unless you can transfer a number from one o2 contract to a new one???) but I'd save myself £130!

Secondly, I am actually an o2 online customer but am I able to go into a store to upgrade my handset or does it have to be done online again? I am going on holiday early next week and need the new phone before I go away so ideally, I'd like just to be able to walk into a shop, upgrade and then walk out with my shiny new calculator, err, I mean phone.

Cheers

Don't quote me on this, but it's my understanding that you can use a PAC code to move from O2 Online to O2 Retail, allowing you to keep your number but take out a contract as a "new customer". This is because O2 Retail and O2 Online are considered two different billing providers and maintain separate contracts. Obviously, this would be the best of both worlds.

But just to make sure, I'd wait until someone else here can confirm definitely or ask at an O2 shop whether you can do this. If you can't move from O2 Online to O2 Retail, you could have course always move to Vodafone or another different network! :)

PS. The reason why your upgrade offer sucks is because O2 Online consider you to be not a very important customer according to their own set of criteria, which means they don't want to spend too much money or effort to keep you as a customer.

you can get the handset from the store and then use the stores phone to ring the national rate number to change your online tariff as part of an upgrade.

its just a shame that o2 shop workers no nothing about the products they sell beyond "ya get 2-undred minutes n i'll ge ya a case n'all". i went into a shop with an mms issue and they told me to go to carphone warehouse to solve the problem. why couldn't they do it??? i didn't even buy my phone through carphone warehouse! retards.

...i did go to craphone warehouse and got served by a very nice young lady who actually sorted me out ;) - i dont think she realised i didnt get my phone from there originally.
