OAP Loses £80k After Leaving It On Car Roof

Didn't know you could be done for "theft by finding"?

I thought if you found something that somebody else lost, then that was the end of it.

No you are obliged to hand it in (after all, you could 'find' someones life saving medication), however if after 3 months no PROVEABLE claim comes in - it's yours hook line and sinker ..

Kids at my school found 4 grand in a cupboard drawer they found in a skip (!!). They got to keep it 3 months after handing it to police, money was probably 'hokey' as the skip owner remained suspiciously quiet!!.

Nope, you need to make a reasonable effort to find the owner.

I sorta knew you were meant to find the owner and hand it into the police, didn't know it was against the law not to do anything to find the rightful owner and if you didn't then you could be done for theft.

You learn something new every day on ocuk forums. ;)
