Oasis - Your Opinion?

First three albums were all excellent - I tag Be Here Now on as well. After that they were a bit hit and miss and never reached the early peaks. In saying that discounting anything after WTS/DM isn't really fair as they have some cracking songs if not albums - Talk Tonight, Sunday Morning Call and Aquiesce spring to mind. Thinking about it now I'd actually have The Masterplan as their third best and right up there with WTS/DM. Always enjoyed seeing them live when they came to Scotland nice and regularly and would love to see Noel on his own now.

I also booked Oasis for a gig at Trentham Gardens in the early days (and Cast and Ocean Colour Scene)

Big fan here. Seen them live 4 times. I agree the earlier stuff is the best. They have a lot of amazing b-sides too.

Excellent at times. Far better than anything that came out of the UK during the same time period.

Any other band from the last 30 years would give their souls to have albums on the level of Definitely Maybe and What's the Story. Masterplan is excellent, as is Don't Believe the Truth. They did have a large dip in the middle with Standing on the Shoulders of Giants and Heathen Chemistry, which affected them badly.

You never know, had Liam not thrown a strop and joined the band in America when he should have they may well have cracked it.

At their height they were probably in my top 3. Noel is one of the best songwriters around. I saw them live at Heaton Park last year and they were every bit as good as I hoped, but i'm not disappointed they split because the last few albums were pretty poor.

I know this isn't a comparison but somebody mentioned Blur and for me:
For songwriting: Oasis
Standout songs: Oasis
As musicians: Blur
Best albums: Blur
Live shows: Blur

I love both of them though :)

Best albums - Blur?

Behave. They have nothing to rival the first two Oasis albums. They're done some fairly good stuff, but not on that level.

Not in terms of sales, or whatever, but in terms of actually doing different things with their music they're miles ahead. There's so much more progression in Blur's musical style throughout their albums.

Blur in particular is a brilliant album. Parklife is also great.

Never understood all of the fuss about Oasis to be honest, I find them pretty bland and boring.

Pulp were by far the best 'Britpop' band, His 'n' Hers, Different Class and This is Hardcore are pure genius, the other few they put out in the 80's are pretty good aswell.

Behave yourself! :D

I hate the term Britpop. Oasis are a rock and roll band. Just ask Liam.

I find the term Britpop pretty pointless aswell, it's just that slew of 90's bands were all deemed 'Britpop'.

Pulp were essentially a rock band also, but I just find Pulp the best band out of that 'Britpop' deemed bunch from the 90's and I've never really understood the appeal of Oasis, they aren't interesting as a band at all, or musically.

awesome. definately maybe and whats the story all the way.

downhill thereafter but i still love both of those albums. i had tickets for a concert a few years ago but had to miss out and give them to a mate as id won tickets for live8.

but i had seen them many years before at the reebok with some mates.
