I bought Oblivion yesterday for my 360 with the current drought, i thought id give it a whirl, I had it on PC, but it ran so badly, i gave up and got rid of it.

Anyway, im on my way to the first quest, how long before the game livens up, it just seems a bit, well, dull at the moment :)

Does it liven up, and if so, when? The first dungeon after you leave the king was pretty dull, is that standard fare for the game?

Its not a game id usually be drawn to, so im not flaming it, it just might not be my cup of tea.

Might be suffering from the same sort of feelings as I had, really wanted to enjoy the game, and I appreciate its one of the best in its genre, but I just really couldn't get any enjoyment from it.

Its one of those games that you will only really enjoy if you put a lot of effort in, I just couldn't be arsed with it and being honest I didn't understand half of the stuff going on anyway, especially the spells and magic side.

I'd never played a game like Oblivion before as I'm normally into driving and FPS games, but when it was released I gave it a go because it seemed interesting. I'm glad I did as it's an experience and a half.

A few months down the line and playing it regularly, I only yesterday completed the game in full, by that I mean all 50 achievements. I've never been drawn in by any single game for this length of time before. I loved it! Some of the missions/quests are superb and whilst there are some 'samey' quests there is still a hell of a lot of variety and fun to be had.

I suppose it's a matter of patience and effort. If you're willing to put the time/work into it, you will get a lot out of it as it's very rewarding but IMO never dull.

Highlights;

The Main questline - great story, all the way through
The Dark brotherhood questline - brilliant missions, sooo much fun.
The final Thieves Guild quest - Hard but a lot of fun

There are lots of other quests that are great fun to do, but are too numerous to mention. just play the game and discover them for yourself.

understand all the stuff and it will be one of the best games you have ever played and take a hundred hours out of your life with ease. I havn't even started the main quest yet lol, and I have done 50 hours of Arena, Dark brotherhood and mages guild, and all the add on packs. will finish the mages guild then do the main story and the fighters guild I reckon. Save the theives guild until last. It may just not be your thing, but I find it amazing, have had it since lauch and cant find enough time to play it, just an hour or so here and there.

I'm really in 2 minds about getting this. I've never been a huge fan of the genre but there is so much praise about this game.

I just started playing it this week and everytime I start playing I think this is a bit dull, why am I playing this...? then 5hours have magically passed, it's 1am and I have forgotton to eat any dinner. I dont know why but this game just seems to drag me in! Thoroughly enjoying it... and I'm generally not into 'weirdy beardy' games :p

From what ive seen so far, ( maybe i would benefit from reading the instructions first :p), ive been following a big arrow on my compass for about 30 minutes, going through different games, without anything actually happening. Theres houses where i am at the side of the road, but nothing to do in them, apart from steal, and thats wrong.

I've only racked up 6hours of game time so far then gave up. I thought the game itself was brilliant, good storyline, good everything except the constant loading :( It would pause every 10seconds sometimes when horse riding which really frustrated me. I tried clearing the cache but it didn't really help. Maybe I'll get into the PC version sometime when I own a PC powerful enough to play it properly.

Really? Thats sucks! :(

I've noticed very little slow down on mine but I keep getting disc is unreadable errors every now and then... Very annoying when you havnt saved or had an autosave in a while!
