Hi all,

I've just been given a nice hexagonal fishtank, problem is it has no lid. I'll be putting a tarantula in it, so it most certainly will need one. I can get a piece of glass cut for cheap/nothing, but I've no way of sitting it in the top of the tank.

I need to find some plastic stuff which 'slots' over the edge of the glass that also has a lip along the edge to support the lid. I can't for the life of me think what it's called, so if anyone has an idea, I'll be most chuffed.

Cheers...

Could you not stick some kind of wire mesh over it?

Not really. Some spiders wouldn't mind it, but not the one I'm referring to.

The humidity level needs to be quite high, as the spider going in it is a tropical species. Wire mesh will result in the viv being too dry for the spider really, esp. in the summer when it gets hotter. It needs to be either glass or plastic to keep it all in. :)

What spider is it?

Poecilotheria Regalis - Indian ornamental rainforest tarantula. Excuse the rubbish pic. It's just about the most dangerous species of tarantula, in that it could well hospitalise you if you get bitten.

I also have me a bigish Salmon Pink Birdeater, a spiderling of aforementioned species, and a Chile Rose. However 2 of my spids died in the last 3 weeks - one Chile Rose, and one of an unknown species. I did used to have 14 at one time.

I've had loads over the years. I've been keeping them since I was about 13 aswell. Redknees, Redrumps (I must've had at least 5 of these, most of which were male and didn't last long), Chile Roses, Sri Lankan Ornamental, Indian Ornamental, Orange Babboon, Curly Hair and others I can no longer remember.

I spent yesterday cleaning them out. The first time in a very long time (about 5 years :o -they weren't dirty, just cobweb everywhere). I tend not to disturb them much, just let them get on with it and do their thang.
