thanks for the advice everyone, but my mobo isn't going to take a big card. Instead I'm gonna use the money I've saved for an i5/mobo/ram, and put in my 8800 until I can get a gpu (sell my old stuff). It's probably the best path anyways, I just couldn't be bothered doing a full system upgrade but at least now my hand has been forced
