DEAR OVERCLOCKERS COMMUNITY,

Thanks for helping me pick a GFX Card

Recently upgraded my rig from a Intel Pentium 1 Core processor with 2 Gb's of RAM and 2x 6800's in SLI, to a i5-2500k build with a GTX 480.

The difference is absolutely staggering.
I was struggling to play CoD series games on 1024x720 on lowest settings.

Now I am rocking super maxed settings obviously ON 1920 X 1080

Life is good :)

I thought you were going to say you upgraded from twin HD6800 cards, in which case I was going to question the decision. :p

But from nVidia 6800s, well that's quite a leap.

Who said anything about 1680x1050 being very similar to 1024x720? You just come out with ridiculous statements. Would maybe understand if you was on good or decent reselution yourself, but you are on a resolution that was the standard for a graphics enthusiast 5 years ago. Lol.

You go on and on about graphics cards, yet you game at that resolution. Get a proper monitor for your next upgrade instead of another graphics card noob.

As for being a troll, from what i see, you are a lot more of a troll than what i am. Constantly spamming all over the place promoting nvidia. Lol.

I understand what you are saying about 1024x768 as performance is likely to be hindered by the cpu but there is nothing wrong with 1680x1050. That res can quite happily punish new graphics cards on newer games. I game at that res, and recently got a GTX 480 from a GTS 250. Therefore I must be a 'noob' in order to get over 40fps on BC2 with medium settings...

How long have we had the resolution snobbery on here?
Is 1680x1050 really that bad?

It's maybe time for GFX-Kid to be removed...

99.9 % of review sites have 1680x as one of the three resolutions they tests at, check the results out compared to 1080p, there is only a few FPS between the resolutions, to say 1680x is not a taxing res with demanding games is derp TBH.

Whats wrong with gaming at 1680*1050 on a GTX480? Lol. That res is still pretty big and allows you to crank up everything to the max, like I do with my GTX560Ti at that res :)

You're right though Raven, probably a banned troll coming back :(

1680x1050 is the most popular res in the steam hardware survey, 1080p is close behind, for gaming both resolutions are perfectly fine. If you want more desktop space then of course a higher res is desirable, but it's all down to personal preference. Yes I would say 1024x720 is too lower res for a 480, but to say 1680x is a poor gaming res is just trolling IMO.

1) I'd take 1680x1050 any day over 1920x1080. 16:9 is a failed aspect resolution for monitors.

2) 1680x1050 is the most popular resolution according to many sources (one of them being Steam).

3) The only drawback is that movies are downsized from 1920x1080 to 1680x1050 - you either lose 15% of the screen size (12.5% on the sides and 2.5% at the top/bottom of the screen) or have the video downsized to fit the screen in which case the quality depends on processing unit of the monitor and 10% of the screen is blank (5% from the top and 5% from the bottom).

4) My monitor uses a better panel than most 1920x1080 in general and good 1920x1200 are still overly expensive.

5) I could never go back to TN panels. Enough that I have to deal with them on my laptop and secondary PC.

6) My monitor runs at 76Hz, 27% more visible fps in games. That makes a difference and none 120Hz monitor fits my requirements yet.

^^ Yeah I have the NEC 20WGX2, I bought a samsung 23" 1080p tn panel at Xmas but the quality is awful compared to my S-IPS Nec, needless to say it went back for a refund and I'm sticking with the Nec until a good IPS 120hz gaming monitor hits.

I'm trying to get my head round why the **** it matters what resoultion you game at. Just coz you game at X resolution, doesn't mean you don't have the knowledge about other resolutions, just means you have your reasons or maybe don't have the money is all.

**** my life people are morons sometimes.

guys quick question. lets say someone had a 6990. would performance actually drop if played on 1024x786 compared to lets say 1920x1080. always thought about this. sorry for stupid question ^^
