OcUK misleading

I really dont know how people are defending ocuk at being lazy and not knowing the specifications of the item they sell!

I have worked in this kind of business and its not rocket science to check one card from a batch and alter the web description, its takes one person a few hours to keep an eye on new batches of stuff and alter the web site. Its not like there are HUNDREDS of new lines each week or anything. If it takes one person an hour each day to do then then big whoop... its not like you need an army of people on the case 24/7.

Its also not as if you have to do it for all product lines, only certain ones where size of coolers/fan moutings are an issue such as cases and graphics cards.

I suspect the lost time /productivity wasted in dealing with the complaints and returns due to wrong descriptions would easily cost the company more than one person's time for upto 2 hours a day to keep on top of it.

Not doing it is just a prime example of laziness and not really caring about the issue. Then again id wager 99% of other places do exactly the same.

If in doubt phone first, but i suspect even then the guy on the phone wont be allowed down into the warehouse to check anyway.

True say...

Bit of a soft arse response,
I take it your the type of guy who puts up with this sort of stuff hey Memphis ?

We all put up with this because there isn't a single Etailer in the UK where you can 100% go by picture.

Its not as if they truly do it deliberately, as it costs them money to have goods sent out, only for it to come back it under the <=7days act.

Most people know by now the image is only an illustration and double check if they need a specific feature thats not listed by definition in the description.

It's the same story with referrence coolers and non referrence. There was a time when you ordered what looked like a referrence graphics card then when it arrived it was the V2 versions!

Moaner's gonna moan.

As always

If you're going to drive 45 miles, phone up :p

Agreed, I would do the same. I know it isn't always the best thing to do but it does pay to double check. If you need to know something about any product shoot me over an email in my trust I will get back to you within the hour always :)

Knowing the mods, you will now get banned for posting.

No he won't.

The problem is that we have, by utilising the "OcUK value" brand, the card partners we use differs daily so there is no easy way of updating the image as the card design and partner change far too freqeuntly.

This is a disadvantage to buying the OcUK value brand over say Asus or EVGA, but the price obviously reflects this.

If you are unsure about a type of cooler, you can ring us or email me directly (in trust). I will will go and check the stock we have instock at that moment and inform you.

I have also deleted the "the mods will ban you now" and "wouldnt surprise me if they did" posts as there really is no need for that kinda behaviour, it doesn't add anything to the thread at all.

Can you not just update the description with something like ( single slot or dual slot ) to reflect the daily stock? it would take very little time each day. I guess it does depend on how your stock system is set up and what your throughput is of course.

I based my comment on my own experiance, and with hindsight i was maybe a little harsh... its certainly something i think you should give some thought to however. Maybe consider the wasted time due to returns under the DSR regulations and consider changing something if its going to save you money :p

Just had a look at the page for the 8000 family there is only one showing a single product.

It has the all important disclaimer at the bottom.
* Cooler may vary from image shown. A single or dual slot cooler may be provided.
Whilst having issues myself at times with OcUK(delivery), your being a bit unfair and to be honest if you are travelling that far to get a GFX card ring up and ask, any money saved would have been spent on petrol.

I will add a disclaimer to the product now :)

EDIT: Done now.

many thanks nath
i wasnt so annoyed with the fact i drove there, as i was going to buy a card anyway regardless, i was more annoyed that my plan was to get a single slot 8800. if that disclaimer had of been there before i would have called, or then asked about the slot when i got to the shop.

many thanks for the update anyway ;)

I understand. If you need any more help just let me know!

If you EVER want to be SURE on the physicality of card CALL.

Pictures are NEVER reliable, even descriptions might not be acurate.

Everything is subject to change without notice.

Sorry but i don't think they were misleading they have always stated clearly pictures are for illustration only and when it is an OcUK value card they also specify you might get other then normal. I personally would have phoned and made sure if a specific feature was that important to me. Not defending OcUK as such because they are not the only ones that do it and i do and have always believed the buyer has as much if not more responsibility in specifying what they want or checking that what they want has the features they require.

Isn't part of the problem possibly that people dont really understand what the 'OCUK value' brand really is (because it isn't explained)? I've seen plenty of posts in spec-me threads indicating that people assume (quite reasonably) that 'OCUK value' is a brand like any other and the picture is simply a picture of it. Perhaps 'OCUK value' product descriptions should explain what the concept really is - i.e. they'll get whatever came off the back of the lorry that week :) (OK you could probably put it a little better than that :)).

I wouldn't touch those with a barge pole, according to rumours they have an RMA rate on these of close to 30%!!!

Source? or just bs rumours? 30% is off the scale.

At the end of the day at least they have a 2 year warranty (unlike the 3 month one with the ocuk 8800GT), it's cheaper and it's also a single slot card that the op wanted.

I don't know how your experiences have been with OC UK but my first time buy from them was and still is a nightmare...got faulty, opened items and I can't contact them.
